Aidan Alvarez was someone who knew what he wanted out of middle school. He wanted to graduate top of his class, he wanted to beat Isadora Smackle for the main debater in debate club, and he wanted his Aunt's Elena's chocolate chip cookies after a long day at school.

What he doesn't want is some random cute boy walking into his apartment. This cute guy just ran through the living room, without looking at him, and opened the living room window.

"Who are you?" He asked. Like a normal person.

"Who's asking?" The cute boy leaned against the window frame.

Who, who is this?

"This is my nephew, Aidan." He waved.  "Aidan, this is Ryan Matthews, he lives in the apartment next door. He uses the window sometimes when he forgets his keys." Ryan nodded at him. Elena placed the cookies on the table.

After Ryan disappeared, Aidan turned to his Aunt.

"Why does he come in here when he forgets his keys? Can't he call his parents or something?" Aidan asks, picking up a cookie and biting into it. Elena sighs and sits down.

"He tells me that he forgets his keys, but I know that he just wants to avoid his family."

"Do you know why?" Aidan asks, concerned. He'd barely even met the kid and he was already concerned about his home life. why did he have to care so much?

He wishes he could stop caring. It's a weakness people can take advantage of.

Elena sighed and shook her head. She got up from the table and left to her bedroom.

Aidan looked out the window, head full of thoughts about why Ryan may be avoiding his family.

He rolled his eyes and stuffed another cookie in his mouth. He shouldn't care this much, it was some random kid who probably didn't even go to his school.

He had better things to think about, specifically the upcoming debate, specifically how to beat Isadora for the top spot on the team.

As he walked to his room, his mind couldn't help but wander to Ryan again, and he couldn't stop them.

--

Ryan was having the time of his life. He'd scored at hot date and they spent the whole night laughing.

He hung out with Darby, Yogi, and Sarah for a while, with them teasing him about his date when Jeremy went to go get a drink.

And they danced. The last dance they shared was at the same time Riley and the rest were on the dance floor, Farkle was doing surprisingly well, leading Maya in the tango.

Ryan couldn't help but laugh at how miserable she looked.

When the song ended, Cory walked on stage.

"Well guys, it looks like the night is winding down. We hope you all enjoyed the dance, but before we go, I noticed some fathers have arrived to pick up their daughters. I wonder if we might have one last dance. A Father-Daughter dance."

Jealousy flared though Ryan as he watched Riley and Maya dance with his father. Just one more thing Riley had that he didn't.
