"Sorry (Y/N), the air conditioning will be out for a few more days. There's nothing I can do about it." My manager, Sam, informs me while setting up several fans around the bookstore. I shrug my shoulders and groan in response, fanning myself with a folded piece newspaper.
"Wisconsin heat is nothing to underestimate, I bet you're missing Canada right about now." My coworker Calvin commented leaning against a bookshelf, obviously seeing how uncomfortable I was with the overbearing humidity.
"That's for sure!" I confirmed, reminiscing about the time growing up in British Columbia.
"I will never take snow for granted again." Sam says, centering himself in front of one of the fans hoping to cool down.
"Hey, move over, you're hogging the cool air!" Calvin complains, slightly nudging Sam, nearly knocking him over.
"No way! Remember, I'm technically your boss, so I could fire you." Sam noted with a wide grin covering his face. Calvin shrugs and mumbles something under his breath while walking away to finish setting up a display of books in the front window.
"Hey Sam, will you go get me some ice cream?" You plead, knowing his answer will be a definite no. He stands in place, thinking to himself. Turning on his heel to face you, he opens his mouth and you expect the worst.
"Actually, (Y/N), I think that's a great idea." Sam confessed, leaving you with your jaw dropped to the floor in disbelief that he actually agreed with you. "What's that look for," he continues, "business is slow today and I think it could lift all of our spirits."
You and Calvin both stand with wide eyes, staring at your boss in shock at the words that just came out of his mouth. "What?" Sam shrugged, adjusting the fan.
"Yesss!" You and Calvin cheered, high-fiving each other with the look of excitement covering your faces.
"You two are like children." Sam chuckled.

After an intense match of rock, paper, scissors, it was decided that you would be the one to go the store to get ice cream. "Haha!" You laugh, rubbing your victory in Calvin's face. "I am the queen of rock, paper, scissors, bow down to me!"
"Don't be so dramatic (Y/N), you have awful sportsmanship." Calvin replies to my bragging, walking away to pick up a large pile of books to take into storage.
A tall brunette walks into the shop, scanning the store. He nearly bumps into Calvin and you can't help but realize how attractive he is. "Sorry, man. Hey, do you know if you guys have any cookbooks?" The mystery man asks my coworker.
"I'm sure that we do, but I've got to go put these books in storage, so (Y/N) can help you. She's behind the front desk." He replies while motioning in your direction with a friendly smile on his face.
He walks up to you, taking noticeably long strides. "Hi, can you show me where the section with the cook books are?" He asks, leaning his elbow on the counter while flashing you a smile. You are quick to return the smile but can feel warmth rising to your cheeks, uncertain whether you were blushing or if this was just a side effect of the air temperature.
"Yeah, no problem." You reply stepping out from behind the table, stopping when you hear a chopping sound coming from the fan on the floor next to you. You give it a kick but it's blade just stops spinning altogether. The smile is suddenly wiped off your face when you realize how much trouble you will be in once Sam finds out you broke his fan.
The brunette laughs, leaning down to inspect the object that was giving you such a hard time. "It looks like a screw fell out, I can grab you one at the store if you want." He kindly offers standing up again.
