Paperclips, clothespins, things that stick together

The wind goes only as far
As the tree branches allow it to go

And ocean waves last only as long
As the seagulls wish it to be

But the truth of the end isn't one to begin as this

For paperclips know how to stay
Paperclips understand all

And of course not too far behind
are the clothespins that know only what the paperclips will teach

So sweet, to be everlasting
So sweet, can't you see

I wish I could be everlasting
But no one will forever
Be with me

Things that stick together
Hard to find
Even harder to keep

But still we know the truth in such ways

I wish I were a paper clip
I wish I knew so much

But here beneath the setting sun
The darkness takes its hold
Of me

I want to be a clothes pin now
I want to understand

Yet here I am alone again
With no one left to be
Just me
