chapter forty-seven.
when the saints go marching in❦
"PUT IT DOWN." Elijah's demand had been what Esme hoped that the hybrid would listen to as the white oak stake hovered over his heart, wanting the right moment to drive it through his chest. Esme's head shook, at how Klaus seemed to see his end, in a which wasn't fair for his children, who had been blinded by the whole idea of having the dark magic siphoned out of them. Esme had stood frozen, she had come to realise if neither her and Elijah had made their presences they would've found Klaus dead. It was all going to be too difficult to explain to Hope and Isaac as they both dealt with their first transformation with belief that their father was to be there when they had returned.
Klaus' jaw clenched. "Walk away, Elijah." Klaus instructed while the stake still hovered at his chest wishing for his brother to leave and for his wife to follow, as he did not want an audience when it came to his death. "You should be here for this, Esme."
"Nik." Esme's silence had broken where Klaus had noticed the shake within her voice that caused his face tis top. "J-Just put down the white oak and let us talk." She suggested the idea, but Klaus knew if he heard what either his brother or wife had to say he would begin to have second thoughts of his death, which was technically their hope.
"There's nothing left to say." Klaus exclaimed, but he knew there were thousands of words to say, to express. "It's time to end the chapter, get rid of the dark magic once and for all."
"Dad?" Esme's eyes flickered away from the gingered brunette who hadn't thought of saying goodbye to the teens in who were approaching. Isaac was tugging his sweater over his head as he followed after Hope down the steps from the shack where they had returned, each taking turns with getting ready before following the chatter that caused their intrigue. Hope's eyes had widened when noticing the white oak hovering over her father's chest causing her questioning. "What's going on here?"
"Get them out of here!"
"Your death is not the answer." Elijah stated.
Isaac's brows knitted together in confusion as his attention narrowed on his father to try and understand what he and Hope and walked into. "Death?" He queried. "W-What the hell are you talking about?"
Hope had been hit with a wave of realisation. "They put it into you." Her lips had parted, as she had been fooled just like all of those surrounding the hybrid. "But you told us that they put it into something safe, and instead, you use our first transition to trick us."
"Right, so what happens?" Isaac questioned as his brows arched with anger. "You just kill yourself and the magic goes away?" His eyes then flickered towards his mother and uncle who was trying to having Klaus listen to their words of protest. "And you're gonna let him go through with this?"
