As I sat in a fancy restaurant with Roger in front of me, I couldn't help but notice how unusually quiet he was acting. Typically in a setting like this, Roger would always be the one starting conversations between us and telling me his funny stories like usual. But now, I found myself fulfilling his role.
"So tell me about America, I didn't get to here much yesterday."
"It was good I guess."
Yet another moment of silence followed through after that, which left me rather puzzled. Although it was awful kind of Roger to reserve such a neat place for us, I wished he would be more cooperative in the conversations we were having. The food we had ordered was brought to us by a sweet old waitress. Lovely Japanese food, which Roger and I both loved.
"Roger, I need to tell you something."
"Yeah?"
"I quit my job."
Roger paused from drinking his beer and gave me a lengthy eye contact.
"What?"
"I said I quit my job."
"Shit Aubrey. Do you have any idea what you're going to do now?"
"No fucking clue actually."
He sat up straight, preparing to tell me something that seemed rather important.
"Well, we already settled on living together. So it's not like you need one anyways."
"Yeah I know that but.. I have to do something. I can't just sit around the house all day with nothing to do."
"You're still in uni though."
"I suppose you're right."
"But Aubrey, I know you've been wanting to be a singer for quite sometime now. So come with me to the studio one of these days and show them what you've got."
Later that night
While the dinner went on, Roger definitely came out of his shell throughout the night. Not that he needed to anyways. But nonetheless he was way more talkative than before and we even found ourselves bursting into laughter a few times. Just like the usual.
I had eventually pushed all my gut feeling to the back of my mind. And when I looked into the deep blue eyes of Roger Taylor, I knew everything was going to be alright.
