"What?" Arohi asked with a laugh as she looked at Shefali and Lara both giving her knowing looks across the table. "Nothing." Shefali replied with a small shrug as she gave Arohi yet another knowing smile. Arohi shook her head and laughed. You two are so apparent!" she said. "No, you're so apparent." Lara said with a smile. "So apparently in love that is." she added. Arohi blushed and looked down at her menu. "Yeah, I am." she said looking up and laughing. "It's sickening isn't?" she asked. "I just can't help myself, this smile just seems to be permanently etched onto my face." she added. "That's how you should always look!" Lara replied. "Happy and satisfied..." Lara added wiggling her brows and giving Arohi a smirk. Arohi blushed. "Anyways can we please move on!" "What's new with you girls?" she asked. Shefali shrugged. "What's going to be new with me?" "I'm only meeting losers." she said with a sad pout. "I'm giving up men and joining a nunnery." she added. Arohi rolled her eyes. "You are not giving up men!" "You are going to find your Mr. Right very soon...maybe even at Rashi's wedding." Arohi remarked. Shefali shrugged and turned to Lara. "What's new with you?" she asked. "Well there is something new with me, something quite new, something very very new." Lara replied, an excited glint in her eyes. "Well what is it?" Shefali asked. "Well in about 7 months time Jai and I will be welcoming a new addition to our family." Lara answered. Arohi's mouth fell open as she jumped up from her chair. "You're pregnant?!" she asked, completely astonished. Lara nodded rapidly, a big smile flashing across her face. "Oh my god you're pregnant!" Arohi said with a happy laugh as she rounded the table and hugged Lara. "I'm going to be a masi!" Arohi said happily. "That is amazing news." Shefali added, hugging Lara too. As the laughing girls settled back into their chairs Arohi started asking questions. "How are you feeling?" "When did you find out?" "What was Jai's reaction?" Lara laughingly answered all the questions and then said "Jai is over the moon." "He won't stop kissing my stomach and talking to the baby." "It's so adorable!" she said with a smile. "He's already bought things for the nursery and he takes such good care of me." "I'm so lucky." Lara said emotionally. Arohi grabbed her hand and squeezed it. "You deserve it." "I am so happy for the two of you." "You two are going to make amazing parents." Arohi said feeling herself choking up again. Lara smiled and then turned to Shefali, "Now that we've got Arohi and I set, we're going to start work on finding Mr. Right for you!" "I want a cross between Arjun and Jai." Shefali announced, which had both Arohi and Lara looking at her. "Well look at how unbelievably happy you two are, I figure if I can get a little of both Jai and Arjun I'm set!" Shefali said. Arohi and Lara looked at each other and burst out laughing. "Shefali, please never change!" Arohi said looking at her friend.
Later on as the girls left the restaurant, Shefali stopped Arohi. "Hey I completely forgot, I ran into your friend Samir right before Christmas and he asked about you, but after I told him you and Arjun were gone away for the holidays he got a little irritated." "It was odd but he practically bit my head off wanting to know where and how long you were gone for." Shefali said, making a face. Arohi cringed. "I completely forgot that Samir and I were supposed to have dinner together, he had wanted to talk to me about something and since I've been back I haven't had a chance to give him a call." "I'm such a bad friend." Arohi said shaking her head. 'No, you're a great friend." Lara replied. "I'm sure he'll understand once you explain everything to him." "Infact invite him to our New Year's Eve party, you can explain everything to him then." Lara added. "That's a great idea." Arohi replied, already reaching for her phone. As she said good bye to her friends and starting walking to her car she got Samir's voice mail. Leaving him a message she apologized and invited him to the party. As she hung up, her other line beeped bringing a smile to her face she saw Arjun's name flash across her screen.
"Hi beautiful." he said in that deep husky voice that always made her melt. "Hi." she replied with a smile. "What are you doing?" Arjun asked. "Just had lunch with Lara and Shefali." Arohi answered. "Hmm...and now what are you going to do?" he asked. "I was thinking about buying a new dress for the New Year's eve party tomorrow night, so I was just going to head to the mall." Arohi replied. "Hmmm..what kind of dress?" he asked in a low voice. "I don't know yet." she replied. "What about for the after party?" "You should buy something for that too?" he remarked. "After party?" "What after party?" she asked, suddenly confused. She didn't remember anything about any after party. "Oh this is by invitation only." Arjun replied softly. "It is?" "Where is it?" she asked. "In our bedroom?" he drawled. Arohi paused for a second and then a deep blush crept up her cheeks. "Make sure you buy something for that party because that's where the real celebrating is going to happen." Arjun added with a grin. "You are incorrigible!" she managed to get out. "Only when it comes to you." he added, looking up as his assistant knocked on the door. "I've gotta go, but don't forget about that very important purchase." he added. "Bye Arjun!" Arohi said hitting end on her conversation. As she climbed into her car she happened to catch her face in her rear view mirror and noticed the telltale blush and smile that spread across her face. All of a sudden she could care less about the party, the after party was suddenly foremost on her mind.
Arohi walked into her home, carrying her purchases which contained something extra special for tomorrow night. But as she passed the threshold she came to a dead stop. Her father in law was standing next to her mother in law and they were both smiling...SMILING...at one another. Arohi's eyes grew wide and she found herself reaching up and rubbing her eyes with her fists. Was she seeing things? No, still smiling...albeit small smiles... but still. "Beta, you're home." Arjun's dad said, looking up at her. Arohi nodded and then smiled. "What are you doing?' she asked hesitantly. "Nothing, your mom found an old album with Arjun and Vicky's photos, we were just having a look at them." "Come and look at Arjun's pictures." Pressing the album into her hand both parents started pointing out Arjun. Arjun in grade four playing soccer, Arjun in high school playing football and wining the championship game, Arjun as class Valedictorian. Arjun as a little boy wearing a scowl on his face as he kept a protective arm across a smiling Vicky's shoulder. Even as a little boy he was protecting Vicky. "He was/is amazing at anything he touches." Arjun's dad said proudly. "When he was 4 he got it in his head that he was going to ride his bike with no training wheels." "Training wheels are for babies he'd said." Arjun's dad remembered back with a soft smile. "So they came off, and he fell I can't tell you how many times...and remember he's only 4." his dad added. "But he did not cry." "His knee is bleeding and his mom is begging him to stop, but he does not stop until he mastered that bike without training wheels." "That belief in himself, it was a part of him long before he even knew what kind of power it wielded." his dad added. Arjun's mom nodded. "I cried as I bandaged up his knees and all he did was smile and eat his ice cream." "He'd accomplished what he'd set out to do and that's all he cared about." "You're really proud of him aren't you?" Arohi asked looking between her mom and dad. "Proud...he's become an amazing man not because of us but inspite of us." Arjun's dad said, his voice a little choked. Arohi felt her heart squeeze for Arjun and his parents. How badly she wanted everything to be good between them all. "I know you're proud of him, but does he know that you're proud of him?" Arohi questioned as she took her father in laws hand in her own. Arjun's dad's eyes flew to her. "If I was to tell him that, he would laugh in my face." "He doesn't care what I think." "He most of all blames me for the mess that is our family, and he's right." Arjun's mom opened her mouth to speak but Arjun's dad held up his hand to stop her. "I am the head of the household, I should have done things better for my boys, for my wife." he said quietly. Arjun's mom's eyes widened as she stared at her husband as if she was seeing him for the first time. "It's not too late." Arohi pushed. "I don't know about that." Arjun's dad replied. "Time will tell I guess." he replied, turning around and walking away. Arohi and Arjun's mom stared after him. "That's the most he's opened up infront of me in 25 years." Arjun's mom said staring after him. "We've started counseling and have been referred to another therapist in Chandigarh." she said, turning to a surprised Arohi. "I don't know if it's going to help us, but we're going to give it one final try and if this doesn't work then we've decided to maybe try separation for a while." she said tearfully. Arohi gasped and then hugged her mother in law. "It's going to be okay." "I know it is." Arohi said softly, and she prayed for everyone's sake that it was.
Arjun walked into his house and as always his eyes sought out Arohi. He didn't see her, but anticipation had him walking a little faster towards the stairs. She was probably in their bedroom he thought to himself. His strides were long as he went up the stairs. He'd been so busy at work but his thoughts still had a way of wandering to Arohi. Thinking of her beautiful smile and infectious laugh, her crazy hair brained ideas making him smile. Opening the door to his room as he loosened his tie, and as he saw her, suddenly the days tiredness lifted right off his shoulders. The weariness was replaced with something else, something that made his heart clench and his breath catch. Arohi turned from the closet where she was hanging up something and smiled at him. "Hi sweetie, you're home so late today." she said, moving towards him. As he watched her still a few steps away, he found he couldn't wait. Taking the necessary two steps, he grasped her and pulled her into his ams, angling her face and pressing his lips to hers. Giving her a kiss that was filled with heat and passion. Arohi's knees weakened and she thanked god Arjun was there to hold her. Her hands drifting up behind his neck as she pressed closer to him. A long while later when they finally did pull away Arjun's eyes were hooded with desire and Arohi's breath was ragged. "Did you miss me?" he demanded unnecessarily, for the first time in his life it seemed he needed reassurance that Arohi thought of him, needed him, wanted him as much as he did her. Arohi let out a breath and whispered "I missed you every minute you weren't with me." Arjun slowly smiled. "Good!" he replied, as he pulled away. "Hmph!" Arohi said as she watched him move to the closet. "I told you I missed you, what about you?" she asked. "Didn't you miss me?" she asked. Arjun grinned. "If the kiss didn't show you how much I missed you then I think I'm losing my touch." he replied. Arohi tried not to smile at that as she turned away from him, but then couldn't help the giggle that escaped her lips when Arjun put his arms around her from behind and pressed a kiss against her cheek. "I am so busy at work." "I barely have time to even eat lunch, but one thing I always seem to make time for are thoughts of you." he replied. Arohi blushed prettily and then frowned, pulling away and giving him a stern look. "You don't have time to eat?!" "Why not?" "Arjun you're going to make yourself sick if you don't eat?" "How can you be too busy to eat?" You take way too much on, you have so many staff, why can't they do more?!" she asked angrily. "Look at you, you're getting so thin, I don't like it!" she snapped crossly. Arjun smiled and pulled her into his arms. "I'm not getting thin and I've only missed a couple of meals because I was working on something important." "And don't worry I'll have a good dinner now, I need to keep my strength up after all, I have a wife who never seems to get enough of me." he teased. Arohi's mouth fell open. "I never?" she stammered. "Who is the one that has barely let me sleep since..since.." she began. "Since???" Arjun teased. "Since!" Arohi snapped and then couldn't help but giggle as he tickled her. "No, Arjun." she laughed as she quickly moved away from him. "Have a quick shower I'm going to make sure your dinner is ready." she said, quickly opening the door and rushing out, leaving a smiling Arjun behind.
"Arjun anyone can walk in at any moment" Arohi snapped, as she pushed his wandering hands away. They had just finished dinner and now Arohi's suggestion was to watch a movie but Arjun's watching a movie had quickly become "Arjun and Arohi making out on the sofa. "No one is coming in here." "I saw Nani, she was dozing in the great room, dad is in the study and mom was headed upstairs." he said, kissing the side of her neck. "Arjun!" Arohi snapped, as she pushed him away and tried to concentrate on what was on the screen. "What?" "I'm watching it." he replied, biting her earlobe. Arohi closed her eyes for a moment and prayed for strength. Arjun had a way of making her completely forget herself. "Let's go up to our room." Arjun said against her neck, as he traced kissed along it. Arohi bit back a sigh of pleasure. "No, I would just like to spend an evening doing something other then making love!" she snapped causing Arjun to back up and look at her with shock. "Do you have a problem with our love making?" he asked slowly. "No, no I don't." "I love it, but right now I want to watch a movie with you." she replied. Arjun stared at her for a moment and then shrugged. "Fine." he said, moving away from her and picking up the bowl of popcorn Arohi had brought in with her. Five minutes into the movie, Arohi glanced at Arjun who now seemed to be engrossed in the movie. After her little outburst he hadn't made any more attempts at trying to convince her to go upstairs. Hmmm..Arohi thought to herself, as she noticed just how far he seemed to be sitting from her. "Great movie huh?" she asked. "Hmmm." Arjun replied, still staring at the screen. Arohi frowned and tried to focus on the TV screen. If someone was to ask her what was happening in the show she would have no idea what to say. Glancing at Arjun she noticed he'd put the bowl of popcorn on the other side of him. Slowly she moved herself closer to him, and then pressing her body against his, she reached across him to grab some popcorn. Giving him an innocent smile, she moved away from him slowly and popped a piece of popcorn into her mouth. She didn't miss Arjun's sudden intake of breath at feeling her so close to him. A few moments later she did the same movement again, grabbing the popcorn. "Oops," she said as a kernel of popcorn fell into the v of her hoodie. She quickly reached in and retrieved it, watching his eyes widen as he followed her movements. Holding the popcorn kernel to his lips she popped it into his mouth. "Yummy." she said, as she gave him another innocent smile and settled back down close to him. "It's so hot in here." Arohi suddenly said, as she unzipped her hoodie giving him a clear view of the tight tank top she had on underneath. Arjun gulped and then eyed her suspiciously, and when she turned to press herself against him to grab some more popcorn, this time he was ready. He grabbed her wrist and watched as her eyes widened. "What are you doing Arjun?" she asked. "I could ask you the same question?" he replied, raising a brow. Arohi looked at him with big innocent eyes. "I'm just watching the movie." she replied. "No, you're just driving me crazy." he replied, as he grasped her hips and pulled her fully onto his lap. Arohi squealed as she landed in his lap. His eyes twinkled mischievously. "You know what I think Arohi...I think you're a tease." he replied, giving her a mocking smile. "A tease?" "Puhlease, I was just getting some popcorn." she replied. Arjun smirked. "Well if that's it then here let me get you some more." he replied, grabbing a couple of kernels and bringing it to her mouth but letting them slip until they fell into the opening of her tank top. "Let me get those." he replied as he used his mouth to pick one up and bring it to Arohi's mouth. Arohi groaned as the popcorn was thrown to the side and Arjun's mouth covered her lips. All his teasing suddenly done as he kissed her ravenously. She kissed him right back as she crawled up onto his lap, her knees straddling his legs, her hands covering his face. Her hoodie was quickly pushed down her arms, as he kissed her over and over again. His hands moving over until she was ready for him to make love to her right then and there. Tugging at his shirt, Arjun said "No, let's go to our room." Practically racing upstairs to their bedroom, the door had barely shut and Arohi was in Arjun's arms. Their love making was hot and urgent and afterwards Arohi blushed as Arjun smiled at her knowingly. "Watch a movie rather then make love?!" he had teased her, as he mimicked her. Arohi had hit him on the chest but as she cuddled closer to him she asked. "Do you think we're eventually going to stop thinking about making love all the time." she asked. Arjun looked her with surprise. "No, I don't have any plans of becoming one of those boring couples" "Even at 90, I'm going to want you just as much." he promised. "But why wait until 90, I think I'm ready for round 2 now." he growled as he kissed her again. Much later that night Arohi's last thought as she fell asleep, cocooned in Arjun's arms, was that if this was a dream, she never wanted to wake up.
"What time are you getting to the party?" Arohi asked as she picked up some last minute things for Lara for the New Year's eve party. Now with Lara being pregnant, Arohi had made her promise to take it easy and that Arohi would help out as much as possible with the party. "I should be there by 8:00." Arjun replied as he flipped through various files on his desk, looking for the one he needed. "8:00!! Arohi exclaimed. "But it's New Year's Eve." she whined, but hearing in answer a grunt from Arjun, she rolled her eyes, knowing he was completely preoccupied with work. "Fine, I'll already be at Lara and Jai's place so I'll see you there." she said, as she hung up. The afternoon quickly turned into evening as Arohi helped Lara with last minute details. "You rest, I'll speak to the caterer." Arohi admonished. Lara smiled. "I'm pregnant not sick." Lara replied. "You're almost as bad as Jai." she added. Arohi smiled. "I know you're not sick, but this is a very crucial time so please just take it easy and let Jai and us, your friends take care of stuff for you." Arohi replied. "Well you can help me by zipping up this dress, I think I've already started gaining weight, this dress is already tight!" Lara said sadly. Arohi looked at her beautiful friend with her still flat stomach. "You look perfect." she said, as she helped Lara with the zipper. "I'm going to get dressed, you go downstairs and look pretty, while you welcome your guests." Arohi said, as she quickly rushed to the bathroom. She'd found a dress that she hoped Arjun liked on her. Her stomach was in knots as she thought about seeing him, she was acting like a newlywed she thought to herself but in a way they were newlyweds. Slipping on a deep purple knee length sleeveless silk dress, with a boat neck in front and a deep V going half way down her back. The dress hugged her curves and the color was perfect with her coloring. Her hair she pulled over own shoulder and slipping on a pair of black pumps with a pair of drop earrings to finish the look. Touching up her lips with a pretty pink lip gloss and her eyes with a smoky grey eye shadow, she took one last glance before she quickly rushed downstairs, knowing the party was probably already in full swing.
Arjun glanced at his watch...8:00 had become 9:30 somehow. Arohi was not going to be happy, he thought as he handed the keys to his car to a valet and headed into the already loud and happening party. His eyes instantly searching for Arohi as he entered. He was greeted by friends and business associates as he moved through the throng of people, his eyes still searching. "You're early, I thought I'd see you closer to midnight." he heard Jai say, as he came up next to him. Arjun raised a brow as he took the drink Jai offered him. "Someone had to stay back and run our business while you throw parties!" Arjun replied, still looking around for Arohi. "She's in the back family room, I saw her there with Shefali and Lara about 10 minutes ago." Jai supplied. Arjun didn't comment on Jai's little declaration, and instead asked "How's Lara feeling?" "Good, tired." "If I knew about the pregnancy before we sent out invites for the party I wouldn't have had it." "She takes too much on, I just want her to take it easy." Jai said gruffly. "Yeah, did you tell her that?" "How did that go over?" Arjun asked. "She kissed my cheek, nodded her head, and to humour me even took a 30 minute nap, and while I was in the study checking me emails she sneaked out to go shopping." Jai answered, with a scowl. Arjun chuckled. "Can't even handle one little wife." he mocked. Jai turned to him, his eyes narrowed. "Oh and you can?" he asked. "Ofcourse," Arjun replied nonchalantly as he took a drink of his scotch. "Were you handling her when she got herself arrested twice?" Jai asked, in a bored voice. Arjun didn't reply. "How about when she brought that dog into your house?" "How was that handled?" Jai asked, with a smirk on his face "Or how about when.." Jai continued, and was promptly cut off by a glare from Arjun. "I get it!" he snapped. "I'm just lucky enough to have a wife who does the exact opposite of what I would like for her to do." Arjun replied. "I'm man enough to be okay with that." "I don't need to change her and maybe you should stop trying to change Lara." "Respect her for who she is." Arjun replied as he moved away from Jai. Jai's mouth had practically dropped to the floor at Arjun's mocking words. Arjun smirked as he kept walking away from his friend. It took him 20 minutes to make his way to the back room because he'd been stopped so many times but when he finally made it, he frowned at only seeing Shefali and Lara surrounded by a group of Lara's friends. Giving Lara a kiss on the cheek he congratulated her and then in the next breath wanted to know where his wife was. "She was right here?" "Where did she go?" Shefali replied. Arjun was getting irritated and anxious now. He wanted to see Arohi, hold her in his arms, feel her melt against him. Leaving the room he walked back outside into an empty hallway and almost instantly collided with Tania. Not knowing it was her, his hands went up to her shoulders steadying her, but as he looked down into her face his eyes grew cold. "Hi Arjun." she replied in soft sultry voice, her hands moving up his chest. Arjun resisted the urge to shove her away. Instead he stepped back, forcibly taking her hands off him. "What are you doing here?" he asked. "What?" "I can't be invited?" Tania asked with a smile. Arjun's mouth twisted in annoyance, and Tania finally said "I came with Maya." "This party was pretty boring but now that you're here we could start a party of our own." she added, trailing a finger down Arjun's shirt front. Before Arjun could open his mouth to tell her off he heard. "Tania, Tania, Tania, how desperate are you to still be going after a married man." "A married man who has no interest in you." "A man that is mine!" Arohi said, as she came up to stand next to Arjun, slipping her hand into his" Little wifey is here and she's got a voice today too." Tania said, with a malicious smirk. Arjun's gaze drifted over his wife and as his eyes met hers he felt his heart give a lurch. Her smile, her beautiful smile directed at him. And the next thing he knew, his blushing bride was wrapping her arms around his neck, "You look beautiful." he said softly staring into her face, Arohi smiled and thanked him and then right before she pressed her lips against his, she whispered "I missed you." Tania looked back at the kissing couple with murder in her eyes. Arjun's surprise quickly turned into hot desire as he pulled Arohi closer and kissed her back with everything he felt for her. Suddenly no one else existed but her and him. Tania felt hot tears rush to her eyes, she wanted to claw Arohi's eyes out, but she knew she could do nothing! Walking away she vowed that one day she would make Arjun and Arohi pay for the pain they caused her.
A couple of hours later:
10, 9, 8, 7, 6,, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 HAPPY NEW YEAR! every screamed. Arohi laughed as Arjun pulled her against him and gave her a soft kiss. "Happy New Year." he said softly "It's 12:00." he added. "You know what that means." he continued. "That's it's a new year?" she replied softly. "That and that it's time for us to leave so that we can get to the after party." "I don't want to miss the after party." he said in a low voice, which had Arohi's stomach dropping. "No, we definitely wouldn't want to miss that." she said, still pressed against him, and the next moment Arjun was pulling away and grabbing her hand, headed to the door. "Let's say bye to Lara and Jai atleast." Arohi squeaked. Abruptly changing direction, but never letting go of her hand, he stopped infront of Jai and Lara. "Happy New Year." he said, quickly giving Lara a kiss and Jai a hand shake. "We're leaving now." he added, as he pulled Arohi out of Jai's arms. Arohi could not believe how impatient Arjun was being. "We had a great time, thanks..." she never got to finish her sentence because in true caveman style, Arjun was dragging her out of there. She should really not like his caveman tendencies so much, she thought to herself with a smile as they flew threw the crowd. Once outside Arjun and Arohi waited for the Valet to bring their car. Arjun had let her hand go, as if he couldn't bear to touch her all of a sudden when in truth his hands were itching to touch her, but he knew he couldn't yet. Even the simple act of holding her hand suddenly seemed too much. Arohi saw the desire in his eyes but she also saw something else. Something much more profound. As she was ushered into the car and Arjun drove much to fast, back to their place, she felt the usual anticipation of being with Arjun but she also felt something else, this sense of well being, she felt a shift in him, a shift in her. It was weird she couldn't put her finger on it, and maybe later she could identify what it was, but today something. felt. different. As they got out of the car, Arjun's arm were scooping her up. A gasp of surprise escaped her lips as she saw red hot desire in his eyes. Carrying her through the dimly lit foyer, and up the stairs, his eye holding hers until they got to their room and he deposited her on the floor. Arohi retreated a few steps, shaken by the intensity of his gaze, but Arjun made no move to go to her or to touch her. A few moments of silence had Arohi feeling self conscious "I should go change." she began. That was when Arjun moved, and then his hand reached out to her face, his knuckles gently skimming over her cheek. Arohi's eyes closed involuntarily. She could feel his breath on her face, as he moved closed. "I love you." she said softly as she opened her eyes, and stared into his eyes. "I love you Arjun Singhania." she said louder. His eyes were dark and intense as he felt each word pound into his heart. "I love you." she repeated. Hot tears fell down her face as she stared at him. His thumb moved to brush away the tears and then his lips replaced his thumb and he kissed her face, below her eyes, trailing to her cheek, and then down to her mouth. Arohi's arms wrapped around him as she kissed him back. "I love you!" 'I love you!" she repeated like a chant. Arjun groaned as he kissed her tenderly, softly, gently, like she was the most fragile thing in the world. His hands so gentle as they slipped off her dress. There were no more words, as he carried her and placed her on to the bed. His lips and his hands caressing every inch of her, as he showed her in the only way he could right now how much he loved her. And when it was over he started all over again, every inch of her alive under his hands. His name falling from her lips almost as if it was prayer. She'd never imagined she could be loved like this and he never imagined he could love like this.
