Bullying…Bullying is such a ludicrous thing because it is a cowardly action to take. Often times the bully is suffering from insecurities and taking it out on others to make them feel better. Why can’t people be nicer to each other? Or if you are hurting, why is it so hard to ask for help.
I myself was bullied. In the 2nd grade a boy had a crush on me. He had such a big crush that he gave me his mom’s mother’s day gift that he made in class. We will call the boy John, John’s three friends would make fun of me, laugh at me, tease me about how John had a crush on me. They would interrupt my recess time to make fun of me. They would laugh at me as I waited in line for my class to walk into the classroom. I would often times go to the nurse’s office because I was crying because they were being mean and would not leave me alone. It happened so often and got so bad that after lunch recess I would have to go to a special classroom with a child development therapist. She would interact and observe me to make sure I was not developing any “unusual tendencies”.
Now you may think, “You were in 2nd grade and they made fun of you for a silly inconsequential reason.” Yes, it was a silly reason to hurt someone. Do you know how hard it was for someone who was only 7 to deal with that? When you are that age you have no clue how to deal with that.
I do admit my experience is not as bad as others. There are thousands, probably millions who experience worse. But we should not undermine people; especially not undermine those who are hurting. No matter how big or small the problem is. No one should have to experience bullying. It happens though unfortunately.
To those of you who have been bullied and overcame it, share your story. To those of you who are going through that right now, ask for help, find an outlet and lastly do not give your bullies the satisfaction. You need to show them and yourself how strong you are. It is not easy but there is a large community out there to help you through this. Do not be afraid to ask for help.
