It was Monday and the start of a new shift. It was currently eleven o'clock at night and I was two hours into my shift, twenty two hours left. I was currently in the cafeteria with a new coffee in my hands adding the creamer. As I turned around I bumped into someone as the hot coffee was spilt all over my chest.
"Holy shi-." I was cut off by the person gasping. "I am so sorry. Here let me help." They said handing my napkins. "It's ok. Just a little hot coffee." I laughed patting my scrubs looking up. In front of me stood a man, maybe around my age. He was very tall, definitely over 6 feet. He had dark brunette hair sweeped lightly across his forehead.
"Let me buy you a new coffee. It's the least I can do since I nearly gave you a first degree burn." He said as I laughed. "Are you sure?" I asked as he nodded. "Anything for the pretty nurse." He responded as I smiled. "Thank you. I can't turn down your offer now." I said.
Once I had my new coffee I turned around thanking him. "Thank you very much," I trailed off not knowing his name. Hoping he would tell me. "Oh yes, I never introduced myself." He said, "Brady. Brady Keith. And you are?" "Blue. Blue Charleston." I responded smiling. "Well very nice to meet you Nurse Blue." He said.
"Nice to meet you too Brady. Have a great rest of the night, thank you for the coffee." I said turning around to get back to the ER. "Wait, one last thing Nurse Blue." He called as I turned around to see him smiling. "If it wouldn't be much of a trouble to you. Can I get your number?" He asked.
"Of course." I smiled as his smile grew wider. "Here." He said handing me his phone. I added a new contact and as my contact name I put 'the pretty nurse.' "There you go." I said handing him his phone back. He took his phone back reading the contact name then laughing. "I like it. I'll let you get back to work Nurse." He said smiling.
"Thank you Brady. See you later." I said waving to him as my pager beeped. I read it quickly gasping then sprinting towards the ER. I set my coffee down then opening the curtain to see one of my patients coding. "What the hell happened?" The doctor asked looking towards the mother. The patient was five years old and had fallen out of his play-set, there was swelling in his brain. But he has been stabilized, he was gonna be fine.
"He was fine just a few minutes ago. We were talking and all of a sudden he just stopped talking and the machine went crazy." The mom said with tears in her eyes lunging for her son. "Ma'm. Let the doctors do their work, please step away from your son." I said lightly grabbing her arm leading her away from the gurney.
"Let go of me. I want to see my son." She said pushing me off of her. "Ma'm. Do not touch your son, they are using very dangerous equipment that could put you at risk." I tried again this time pulling her away more forcefully. She again tore away from my grip then shoving me into the tables, I stumbled falling into the glass, a loud crack following.
"Security. Get her out of here." The doctor yelled as I grabbed my head pulling my hand away to see blood. "Are you ok Blue?" Another nurse asked as I nodded. "Just a little scratch." I responded standing up. "Blue. Sit down, now." The doctor said looking towards me as I groaned sitting down.
"With all due respect Doctor Grey I'm fine." I said as he ushered me into another room. "I'm not sure if you're aware but you have blood dripping down your forehead." He said handing me a towel. "Yes sir. I'm aware. But please if you let me explain." I started but he cut me off not letting me finish my sentence.
"With all due respect, you are being benched for the next hour." He shot back as my mouth was held open. "Doctor Grey is this really necessary?" I asked. "To be in my team. Go get a concussion test and come back in an hour." He responded walking out of the room not wanting to further discuss the topic. "Of course." I groaned.

"So let me get this right. You got benched for an hour just because you hit your head." Amanda said as I nodded, "yes. I'm pissed." "I would be too. You have every right. Anything else happen today?" She asked as I smiled looking down. My mind immediately went to Brady.
"Well maybe one thing." I said laughing. "Spill. Right now." She said sitting down in the chair. "I mean. If you really wanna know." I teased her as she threw up her hands. "Blue Charleston." She warned as I smiled.
"So at the beginning of shift someone spilt coffee on me," I started as she raised her eyebrows at me. "How is that good?" She asked. "Mandy it was a guy, he asked me for my number. And he bought me a new coffee." I said smiling even wider. "Shut up that's the cutest. What's his name. You got his name right?" She asked as I laughed.
"Yes, chill little Miss Stalker. His name is Brady Keith." I said as her mouth dropped open. "What? Do you know him or something?" I asked. "No not personally but he's a hotshot neurosurgeon." She said as it was now my turn to open my mouth in shock. "Wait how old is he then?" I asked as she waved her hands.
"Only like four years older than you. It's not that much of a gap. Plus you waited to go into med school and he graduated at like a really young age. So it's super cool." She said as I laughed. "Of course you know this stuff." I said. "Every nurse and girl that works here is like obsessed with him. Consider yourself lucky Blue." She said as I waved my hands.
"Whatever Mandy. Get back to work loser." I said shoving her forehead away from me. "You'll see what I'm talking about soon Blue. You're awesome. Glad you're my best friend." She said winking walking away to do her rounds. "You're awesome too. Touche." I yelled back as she saluted.
