Percy was usually super late to class, so he was pleasantly surprised when he rushed into first period only to find the classroom empty. Not even the teacher was there yet. He stood for a few minutes dumbfounded. It was Tuesday right? Yes, he was sure of it. He shrugged, ignoring his suspicions, and took his normal seat in the back of class. He pulled out the homework he had "forgotten" to do, happy for the opportunity to scribble down some random answers and receive at least half credit for it.

He nearly dropped his pencil when someone burst into the classroom. It was Annabeth Chase. She was a nerdy girl who always finished her work ten minutes into class and spent the remaining time reading. Some of the kids made fun of her, calling her "lame" or "boring." They said she needed to take her head out of her books and live in reality. There was a rumor going around saying the only reason she got straight A's was because her parents bribed the teachers. Percy never agreed with those other kids. He himself has spent plenty time being picked on. Though he never really talked to Annabeth, though no one really has, he was sure she was cool and that her intelligence was real.

"Sorry I'm late Mr. Blofis, I promise it will never happen ag-" She stopped mid-sentence, taking in the scene. "Oh..." She said quietly, letting out an exhale of relief and taking her seat in the front. Once she was settled, she pulled out a book and began reading.

Finished with his homework, Percy shoved it back into his bag and glanced at the clock. Weird, apparently the late bell should have rang at least eight minutes ago... Well, the bell never rings on time anyway. Percy yawned, angry at himself for staying up late again on the internet, and laid his head down on the desk, hoping to get at least a little rest before class began.

Percy was shocked when we woke to silence. Usually he woke to the teacher rapping a pencil or ruler on his desk and yelling at him to go to the principles office. In fact, the class was never this quiet. He scanned the room, astonished that it was still nearly empty. He rubbed his eyes and studied the clock. That can't be right. Apparently, class should have started over half and hour ago.

The only two people in class were him and Annabeth. In fact, they may very well be the only two people at school. Annabeth seemed, for once, oblivious.

"Psst, Annabeth!" Percy hissed. She sunk lower into her seat and pulled on her hood. "Annabeth!" Percy yelled this time, remembering they were completely alone.

She jumped, a small yelp escaping her lips. She turned, glaring dagger. "No, you cannot copy my homework. Now leave me alone." She turned back around and continued reading.

Percy sighed in exasperation. "I did my homework! Well, kinda. Never mind! That's not the problem!"

Annabeth ignored him, turning a page in her book.

Percy got up and stalked over to her desk. "Hello? I'm trying to talk to you!" He snapped his fingers in her face.

Annabeth slammed her book down on her desk. "Will you just leave me alone!" She looked like she had tears in her eyes as she violently shoved a headphone in her ear and picked her book back up.

Percy had no other choice, he grabbed the book from her. She jumped up and snatched it back.

"Why won't you leave me alone? Just go away, please. I don't care if you don't like reading, I do. I don't care if I'm not pretty. I don't care what you think of me. Okay? Everyday, it's someone new who has a problem with me. I'm not going to apologize for being smart. I'm not going to change who I am just for your approval. So just go away." She sat back down, looking stunned at herself.

Wow. Percy never knew it was that bad for her. She was only in one of his classes, and he did tend to stay out of drama. But that was horrible. To criticize someone to the breaking point. He himself never had it that bad.
