Nate and Jasper weren't speaking to each other.

Which I had a feeling was going to happen after yesterday's events. But a part of me hoped they'd reconcile after seeing each other. Which was clearly not the case at all.

They've been completely ignoring each other through every class, lunch and breaks we had in between. And it seemed like everyone in school knew about it too. The word must've gotten out.

I really never understood why people cared so much about other peoples business. It doesn't concern them in the least so why are they so keen in finding out and spreading rumors?

False rumors to be exact.

But I much rather not get into details.

"Can't you guys just make up?" I tug on Nate's sleeves. Poking my bottom lip out in a way to try to persuade him. But he wasn't having it.

"There's no reason to. Just drop it Clary please." He shakes my hand off and runs his fingers through his hair in frustration.

I scoff loudly, his eyes softening once they land on me. "weren't you the one who scowled me yesterday because I fought with my best friends?"

"Yeah, well. Mine and Jasper's friendship isn't anywhere near your guys'" Nate exhales and licks his lips. "plus, you never talked to them either." He shrugs nonchalantly.

"That's because they aren't here so I can talk to them, but that doesn't mean I won't. You can't avoid Jasper forever especially when you see each other everyday." I say to him.

"I can try."

"Nathaniel." I cup his face and force him to look at me. He clenched his jaw. "what's going on with you lately? Won't you tell me?" I whisper out.

"What are you talking about?" He adverts my gaze and shakes his head. I frown. "you're seeing things that aren't there."

"Really? Nathan?" I ask and he turns to glare at me but I don't back down. "a nickname shouldn't piss you off so much. Look how much affect it has on you and you're saying I'm seeing things?"

"Don't call me that. Not you." He backs away from me and runs his fingers through his hair. I squint my eyes in disbelief.

"Why?"

"Because the person who called me that betrayed my trust."

Jackson?

"Jasper called you that too." I trail off, looking at his face.

Nate exhales, "yes, but he's not who I'm talking about." He cups my face and leans in, taking me by surprise as just seconds ago he was clearly mad at me. "why do you want to know so badly baby?"

I wrap my fingers around his wrists and scoff lowly. "Why? Because you're my boyfriend. I hate seeing this side of you."

"Would you hate me more if I told you this is the real me?"

The real him?

I soften my gaze and shake my head. "You know I could never hate you. I just want to know what's bothering you so much." I whine, wrapping my arms around his waist instead.

Nate exhales deeply and hugs me back. I could hear his heartbeat, it was oddly calm but his arms wrapped around me were tense.

I was dying to know what was going on with him. But the hurt and anger that flashed through his eyes went I even began to mention it made me come to a halt.
