"Now what we're looking at today is an old medical case." Our professor voices out loud to the entire class. "we of course got permission from the patient in order to be showing it to you all now. Can sometime tell me what surgery was needed to be performed in order to save their life?"

We all stare at the x-ray video in front of us. The lungs of the patient were on display and the slightly darker blotches on it was due to external bleeding from around.

A vein within the blood vessels most likely burst due to heavy lifting or simply of old age. This case reminded me of one my brother did long ago, and if it was anything like that one then the patient needed to have surgery immediately.

"Miss Nightingale." The professor calls out for me. I tear my eyes off the monitor and nod. "do you know what's wrong with this patient?"

"The person was bleeding around the lungs. A surgeon would have had to make an incision along the rib cage or the breastbone. . ." I trail off slightly as I feel everyone's eyes on me.

I clear my throat, "Gaining access to the chest, the surgeon can identify and stop the bleeding and protect the lungs from pressure caused by excess blood." I state firmly my thoughts.

"Thoracotomy, is the surgery they would have had to perform in order to save this person's life." I finish boldly.

The professor smiles widely at my response, nodding his head as he claps proudly. "You are correct. This surgery was actually performed by your older brother, Doctor Carlyle Nightingale."

An outburst of proudness fills my chest and I find myself in awe at how it was in fact Carlyle who performed the surgery and not only did he succeed in it but the patient is alive after more than four years.

When his estimated time was a mere six months or less.

"Show off." Nate murmured into my ear once the teacher pulls up a different set of x-rays on the screen.

I nudged him with my shoulder, "you're just jealous because you didn't know."

"Says you." He snorts loudly. I roll my eyes and he glares at me. "the internal bleeding was caused by an injury, if you looked closely you could see the puncture in the x-ray."

A girl that was seated in front of us turns to face us with a dumbfounded look. "I didn't even see the internal bleeding." She turns back around slowly and buries her face in her desk.

I bite the inside of my cheek to prevent myself from laughing while Nate plain out laughs. I hit his knee with mine and shake my head.

He leans in closely, "you just love hitting me don't you?" He wraps his arm behind my back and I squirm against his touch. "you're going to be an outstanding doctor."

"I could say the same about you." I quickly give him a chaste kiss and smile sheepishly at his dumbstruck reaction. I lean against his body and blush as he presses a kiss of his own on my cheek.

"I know you guys haven't noticed, being all in love and shit. But I'm right here." Jasper comments from behind us, flicking Nate in the back of the head. "keep your hands to yourself mister. Save it for the bedroom."

Nate exhales angrily, removing his hand from my back and writes down today's assignment. I quickly write them down just in time as the final bell goes off.

We pack our things and exit the classroom, smiling kindly at the professor on our way out. The second we walk out Jasper takes off running with Nate hot on his tail.
