Torrey stood before the Nakiri manor, his jaw dropping in awe once more. This family's extravagant estate was beyond his comprehension; it still felt surreal to him. A few months ago, he didn't even know the Nakiri name. He'd long since learned, however, that they ruled the world of Japanese cuisine.
His first visit had been for their famous Halloween party, where he fought against skilled competitors in a series of Shokugeki's lasting into the early hours of the morning. One would assume that this second visit, merely a social one, would be much more relaxed. This was not the case.
It wasn't as if Torrey and Alice were dating. So why did he feel the heavy pressure that inevitably occurs when meeting the parents of a lover? Wait, that's exactly the problem! We're not dating...but it feels like we are! That's why I'm so worried about making a good impression, he thought.
Despite the mounting pressure, Torrey was aware that he'd gotten off easy. He'd owed Alice a big time favor, and all she asked in return was that he have tea with her and her parents. It was a bargain, really.
Since he arrived early, and needed to calm his nerves, Torrey took some time to examine the grand wooden doors that opened up into the mansion. He hadn't noticed on his first visit that the doors were inlaid with an elaborate golden frieze. The images depicted seemed almost biblical, but on further inspection they revealed stories about history's most famous gourmands.
Torrey recognized some of the greats: Talleyrand, Cordon Bleau, Alexandre Dumas. There were many others that he didn't recognize, and he resolved to ask Alice about them later. Finally calm, Torrey reached out and rapped the knocker.
When the door opened up, he was greeted by...Alice's older sister?
"Torrey, yes?" she said, with a distinct accent. Looking remarkably like Alice, the only differences were her elongated features and lengthy hair, which was tied into a neat ponytail. It had a familiar silky white sheen, which provided a nice contrast to her vivid red eyes. Clearly, the family possessed excellent genes.
"Yes! That's me!" he replied, a little too suddenly. He had butterflies flitting about in his stomach. "Alice didn't mention a sister..."
"Oh ho ho!" she said, reaching out and pinching Torrey's cheeks without warning.
"Umm..."
"No sister of Alice. One daughter only," she said, holding up a finger. Huh? Could this be...
"Ms. Nakiri?"
"Yes, is me! Leonora Nakiri. You have the charms," she said, giggling.
"Thanks, that's very kind Ms. Nakiri." She's gorgeous! Is Alice going really going to look like that some day? Hmm...
"Such cute! Alice tastes good."
"Woah, uh...I can't say that I know how she tastes, Ma'am."
"Oof! Silly me. I said wrong. Teeheehee," she said, covering her giggles.
"That's okay! Did you mean to say that she has good taste, perhaps?" I sure hope that's what she was trying to say.
"Yes! Yes! Has good taste. Whole family has good taste!" she said excitedly.
"Right, right. I've heard that your family has quite the reputation in the culinary world," said Torrey.
"Mhm! Lots of famous. Alice and Erina both going to stars!"
