"Haha, good one Saito," said Rindo. The council 4th seat didn't seem to be joking, however, as his blade was still pointing at Torrey."Tor-myan's proven himself plenty of times," said Momo. "You're being unreasonable, So-myan."
"Perhaps, but unless he objects, I'd like to see for myself," said Saito. "The dish you presented during the Battle Royale was certainly worthy, but any chef can make one good dish with a little luck and the right ingredients. Do you accept my challenge?"
"Sure, why not? I'm always down for a Shokugeki," said Torrey. In truth, he'd been looking forward to the idea of going up against another council member. His loss against Nene, unreasonable as it was, still weighed on his confidence.
Defeating most of the third-years during the Battle Royale was an impressive feat; they were some of Totsuki's finest chefs, and Torrey dispatched them with ease. But there was a reason these opponents were there to begin with- they weren't good enough to make the council. Saito seemed to question if Torrey deserved his seat, and Torrey himself was questioning the same thing.
Saito finally lowered his blade.
"You have the eyes of a warrior. I expect this will be an entertaining match," he said, nodding in approval.
"What are we going to wager, though? Not to sound like a wuss, but I'd rather not risk my enrollment again, not after..." Torrey started. Saito put his hand up.
"I understand your concern, and I swear on my honor that this will be a fair fight. I can assure you that the judgment will be swift and impartial. I'm well aware of the controversy surrounding your last match against a council member. I would never shame my liege with such underhanded tactics."
"Hmm, you do seem like a pretty honorable guy," said Torrey.
"It's true, Kohai. His samurai persona makes it impossible for him to cheat," said Rindo.
"It's not a persona! I am a true samurai, to the very depths of my soul!" said Saito, raising his voice. Apparently Rindo had a knack for pushing EVERYONE'S buttons.
"I appreciate what you're saying, but that still doesn't answer my question. What are the stakes?" said Torrey.
"If I may, I'd like to propose the terms," said Saito. Torrey nodded, so he continued.
"In the event that you fail to justify your appointment to the council, you will step down and relinquish your seat to someone more deserving. You'll be allowed to remain at school, and retain your position within Central. If you manage to defeat me, however- then I will personally train you in the ways of the samurai."
"Huh?" said Rindo.
"What?" said Momo. "This sounds kinda..."
"Deal!" said Torrey. He was shaking Saito's hand before the girls could talk him out of it.
"Kohai, that's a terrible offer! You haven't even had a chance to use your council perks yet!"
"Are you saying I'm gonna lose?" said Torrey. Rindo's eyes widened.
"No no no! I didn't mean...uh...help me out here, Momo!"
"Nope, this is your problem now. What DID you mean?" said Momo, her green eyes twinkling with mischief. Rindo took a deep breath.
