Virgil POV

"D-don't hurt him-m," I practically whispered in an extremely weak, but still audible voice

Both Roman and his dad turned to look at me, the dad having anger radiating off of him. "Stay out of this ya little shit!" his dad shouted kicking me in the gut, sending my very damaged body into a nearby tree.

I whimpered, trying to hold in a scream. My body was aching in ways I never knew was possible. My leg was in the most pain. I could no longer walk until it heals, at least.

Turning away, I heard a small conversation enter my ears that occurred between boy I had a crush on and his father that was going to hurt me until I died. "Come on you little shit," I heard Roman's dad said and he picked me up throwing me over his shoulder, and I whimpered. "Roman!"

Roman left his little trance and followed his dad not wanting to look at me or the man he claims as his father. My mind was racing processing everything that just happened. I didn't want this to happen the way it did. I didn't want Roman to know I was an Avian or anything like that in general.

"Son go get my blue bag." His father said bluntly as we all entered the camp they stayed at. I fell to the ground with a loud thud. I groaned from the impact. My eyes widened as I realized what was going to happen from the sudden command. Mr. Charming grabbed a thick chain that would wrapped around my neck and arms and put it on me, linking it to the tree nearby.

I watched Roman grabbed the rather bulky bag from the back corner of the truck. "What are you going to do?" he asked walking towards him.

"Teach this little shit a lesson," his dad growled. I was used to getting hurt during the hunting season, but the red glint in his eyes could give me nightmares for months. I huddled up against the tree I was chained to. A terrified look came as his dad walked closer. I had a pleading look in my eyes to make him stop. I don't want to die, not today not this way. My heart stopped as Mr. Charming came closer.

"W-wait!" Roman suddenly said, not planning anything because of the pause. His dad glared daggers at him, urging him to continue, "T-the plan is to sell him right? For money?" his father continued to stare, "Well, if I was a buyer I wouldn't want my product to be damaged, would I?"

He thought for a moment, "Good call boy!" He placed the bag down and walked over to my crush. He ruffled his fiery red hair and then made some dinner.

*Time Skip Brought to you by Virgil's beautiful smirk*

I laid there on my back, want to run and get as far away as I possibly could, unable to find sleep. I couldn't get the terrifying thought of dying out of my mind. I stayed in my spot for a few moments before I sat up and quietly adjusted the position I was in, careful not to wake anyone here.

I spotted the stars high in the sky as I laid down on my side right next to the tree, shivering. It was really could at this time of night and I had nothing to keep me warm. I let my mind wander thinking about everything that happened. Despite my efforts to try and clear my mind, a twig snapped breaking me from my mind. I shot up, my mind and eyes wide and alert.

"It's just me," Roman whispered. He looked like he wouldn't hurt me so I calmed down releasing I couldn't get in any real danger. Roman was stunning under the moonlight's glow. "Um, it is so good to your okay."

I gave him no response. My mind was racing a hundred miles a minute. I wanted him to wrap his arms around me and feel his body against mine. I wanted to kiss him. "Look Virgil I-"

Before he could continue I felt my lips on his plump ones. OH MY GOD I'M KISSING ROMAN. Even though it ended all too soon I wanted more.

"I-I'm sosososososososososo sorry!" I squeaked backing up from my long time crush. A deep red blush probably washed over as a little graced his cheeks. All he did was smile. "I-I wasn't-I mean-I um shit, um-"

The teen cut me off with a more passionate kiss than before. I melted in and my fingers found their way into his forest red hair.

We both pulled away needing air. "You have NO idea how long I've wanted to do that," he whispered putting my forehead on his.

"Me too," I nuzzled my face into Roman's neck. I smiled this was amazing, but what are we going to do? There is no way this could work.

"Let's go."

"What?"

Roman stood up and offered his hand to me. "I'm getting you out of here."

"I can't w-walk," I whispered, embarrassed. He can't help now my leg is broken. I watched as Roman walked over to the utility table that I had looked at in my time here so many times, and grabbed a key. It unlocked something. Roman came up to me and unlocked the thick bands around my neck and wrists. My chains fell off, freeing my limbs and letting me pop my neck once again. Roman gave me a smile and picked me up gently.

He placed me on his back, not caring if I was heavy or not.

"You good?"

"Y-yeah," I said. His arms wrapped around my my knees. He tried his best to avoid my severely injured leg. I felt my heart beating inside my chest rapidly. I buried my face into the back of his neck, inhaling his sweet scent of strawberries and fresh chocolate chip cookies. The tips of my wings brush against his legs as Roman walked. The silence was comfortable and I enjoyed it.

"I'll protect you, I promise my love."

My heart stopped as I heard those words escape Roman's mouth. He does love me.

No he doesn't

No. He can't-he.....he can't be back. No not now.
