Virgil's POV
It's been about two months since the Avian hunt. Thankfully Roman's dad never found me but, my red haired boy was in a lot of trouble. For running out on his father, he had to do all his siblings chores for two weeks. Remy and Patton found out about me and Roman and let's say many dirty comments, fangirling, and lots of blushing was involved.
Logan is happy for me, but he's worried about us. You see, there is a man. A man you do NOT want to get tangled up with. And lucky me, I did. He was my world, my everything. The only other person that could understand what I was going through. No he wasn't Avian, but he had a similar situation. Or so I thought.
Without a warning, my mother and I were taken away and he no longer contacted me. We were experimented on, poked and probed over and over again. I still get chills at the thought. Then I found out it was him. He was secretly leaking our information to a group of scientists just so he could earn some cash.
In my mother and I's time there we were tortured if we disobeyed orders or didn't give them the results they wanted. For months this went on, unbearable pain no one would want to feel was inflicted on us. On the last day he was there and he-
~Flashback~
The darkened cell sent another set of chills down my spine. Mom was next to me, our weakened bodies trying to provide warmth for each other in this cold weather. I look up to my mom.
Her long brown hair was greasy and tangled and her once sparkling eyes were dull and lifeless. Dark circles were forming under her eyes and a line of dried blood was streaked on her forehead. Her clothes were torn in a few places, dried blood splattering here and there. I looked about the same.
Our massive wings slightly curled around us, to add to the warmth. The cell wasn't very warm and since it was winter it made since. "Virgil, honey," My mom said weakly, I looked at her, "I love you so much and if we don't make it out, remember that, okay?" I simply rolled my eyes, "I am serious."
"I know but, we WILL make it out alive and well!" I replied. Just then a bunch of scientists walked into our cell.
"Hello subjects 247 and 248. One of you is allowed to go," the oldest scientist announced.
"Why not both of us?" I asked standing up.
"Because, the person to be free is going to-"
"Die," another voice interrupted. The person pushed through the other scientists. When he came through I froze. A tall boy was there. His skin was slightly tanned with a patch of green scales appearing on his left side. His eyes were mismatched, one a chocolate brown liquid the other a menacing yellow. His dark, golden blonde hair was a mess underneath the black baseball hat he wore. His yellow button up T-shirt and black pants made it all click.
"D-Dylan!?" I screeched. Dylan Nyx, the trickster of all tricksters, also known as Deceit. A lyIng, cheating a-
"Yes it is I! Did you miss me V?" He asked gently grabbing onto my chin. He was my friend. Another misfit person like me.
I growled and turned away from him, "You lied to us, you lied to ME, Dylan! How could you!?" I cried out to him, "I trusted you! But now? I under stand the reason for the nickname. It's not a joke, like you said, it's a warning."
"Virgil-" mom said in the background holding onto my wrist.
"Awe don't be so mean, V. It's not my fault I was putting so much money on the line," Dylan replied a smirk on his face. "I was doing them a favor anyway!"
"A favor!? A favor to torture your friend!? You said we were friends! I actually had a crush on you!" I yelled, tears beading in the corners of my eyes, "I-I loved you. And you repay me by doing this!?"
"Will you just shut up? I'm sick of hearing you blabber on about trusting me," Dylan said. "Can I?" He asked turning to the scientists behind him. They gave him an approving nod.
"W-what are you-" A shiny pistol came into my view. Dylan held onto it, aiming at. . . . . . .me. My eyes widened as fear swam I side me. "Dylan please don't do this! We can talk about this! I'm, I can, um uh-"
"Bye-bye V!" He let out a deep and dark chuckle before pulling the trigger.
"No!" My mother screamed. I closed my eyes, flinching back, ready to die. I knew it was going to happen. I waited, but nothing happened. When I opened my eyes I regretted it.
There on the floor was my mother. She jumped in front of the bullet, saving me. It lodged into her chest just below the heart. I screamed, "MOM!" I collapsed on the ground holding her. "No, please no!" Tears spilled over dripping onto her cheek.
"Virgil go." She told me. I shook my head. "Honey please. Run away as far as you can from here. Find your brother Logan, stay with him," she wiped my tears away with her thumb. "Forget me, live on. Find your love and continue to thrive, for me."
I knew I couldn't do anymore so I ran. I escaped through the opened cell door, tears blurring my vision. I heard yells coming from the scientists, but I didn't look back. My legs pounded on the marble floor as I made my way to freedom. I came closer and closer to the door. I burst through the door, the sunlight welcoming me. I shot up into the air spreading my wings. I then flew far from there, never looking back again.
~End Flashback~
Dylan Nyx's image flooded my head and I shivered. "Virgil? I heard Logan ask walking into the living room. He was frantic and he looked worried. "Oh thank the gods!" He cried out embracing me into a hug.
"What? What's going on?" I asked pulling from the embrace.
"He's back, and he has Roman." My heart stopped. He has Roman. No. NO! My hands began to shake as my mind raced through a million scenarios.
"DYLAN!"
