Years went by and Shadow was forgotten his kindness and gentle heart was lost to the long darkness that touched us all deeply. Without realizing we needed him we had sent him away praying he would return to us.
The towns people kept their roofs in good condition as they always, the tavern keeping a lantern burning for him should he return and the guards on the high wall kept an open space for him to climb up.
While searches for shadow continued Matilda, Darius, Joseline, and I went on to enjoy life taking long walks on our horses into the enchanted woods though many who went into the woods felt changed when they retuned to the village as if a sort of light had moved them though this was just another musical tale told to those who would listen.
"Trystan why don't we stop at the lake" Matilda suggested as we walked past the shimmering water in the middle of the woods, the trees that hung around it were all large sprawling Willow trees that let their long whip like vines dip into the water as they stood along the outside of the lake.
"I don't see why not the horses might like a drink" I said turning my steed towards the water and dismounting, letting her bow her head to the waters surface to drink her reflection moving with the ripples of the lake as she drank the other horses joining and doing the same all of us taking a drink ourselves cupping the water in our hands.
"Are you guys seeing what I'm seeing" I said as I looked up seeing some objects in the sky
"is it night already?" Joseline asked looking up with me.
"No its not even close the sun is still showing midday" Said Darius.
"you don't think that's a dragon or something do you?" Matilida said stalking up behind us.
"I would love it to be a dragon but it looks to be a giant bird of some kind" I responded before getting back onto my steed and turning to walk back to Lishengure the others slowly following though they went as slow as they dared without falling behind to far.
After a long silent walk back to Lishenguer Darius finally spoke breaking the silence "Hey uh guys could we stop for a moment?" he asked and I looked back and sighed.
"were almost back you can wait Darius" I grummbled as we kept on before he stopped his horse and dismounted "you guys need to see this" he said his voice full of wonder his mouth open wide so we all dismounted tied the horses and went to him.
"what's so damn impor..." I was cut off by my own wonder as a large dragon looked at us its scales plated perfectly in a soft brown, its eyes were a bright blue almost like the lake itself "what kind is it Joseiline?" Matilida asked her in a whisper.
"It's a illuniamion the disapearing dragon it can reflect it's surrondings so we see what's around it and not the dragon itself" she said before the dragon closed its eyes falling again to the shadow of the woods.
"perhaps we should leave it alone now and continue on" I said turning and walking off the others joining our pace full of hast to get back to the steeds though when we returned for them they were gone no hoof prints or sign of struggle they were just gone.
"that's perfect it really is" I exclaimed saying out loud what we were all thinking.
"guess we are walking then my lordship" Darius joked as we started to walk.
"where would they go without leaving a print all of these tracks are old theirs no new prints upon the soil but the ones we left on the way into the wood" Joseline said Matilida giving sharp nod of her head in a agreement.
"well the woods are no place for such things we knew that perhaps the horses are waiting for us at the stables they are well taught" Matildia said as she stepped beside me.
"yes we shall find them at the stables is all" I responded but a strange shadow cast on the ground before us brought us to a halt Mid step.
"Your horses didn't return to the stables they sprouted wings and flew off if you had any sense you would know this stupid noble men and ladies, they an't got no thoughts of their own they think they know all just cuz' they got money and riches they be wrong" said a voice from high in an old red wood that stood tall reaching for the heavens.
"I'm sorry lad but were not nobles or rich perhaps you should learn to pick our a royal from a commoner" Snapped Matilida before turning and walking off until her steed landed infront of her with large wings the gear of the horse in shreds falling off slowly as it landed the others doing the same.
"Matilida perhaps the talking red wood tree was correct" I said knowing trees could not talk they only groaned in the wind and whispered with their leaves in the wind.
"Trees don't talk silly boy" said the large six foot elf standing behind me he wore no armor only cloth made from only the finest fibers.
"you're an elf from the grand river" I said without thinking knowing we had insulted a man both good with the bow, dagger, and sword but yet we stood alive and breathing.
"yes I am it is said that an elf is the wisest of all beings and you sir are no acceptation I know you kind..man will never know the glory of what us elves know or see" he said before whistling a pure white elk trotting out of the woods "perhaps we will meet again" he said before mounting and riding off into the deep of the forest being hidden from the undergrowth.
