I took Joseline to her home leaving her there our hearts as one once more our love being mislead for a time but now back on the trail. I went to the castle riding hard through the streets people moving out of the way as I jumped off the horse going to the stables as I ran up the stairs to the castle and through the large doors.
I weaved my way through the long corridors of the castle to the throne room where my father stood looking over a war set up many flags and such spread around a map of the area of war. "My king a word" I said softly his gaze moving to meet mine as I stood from a half bow only for respect.
"Of course my son speak" he said moving to where I stood in the room.
"I wish to take Joseline as my Queen" I said quickly before my courage left me.
"Joseline the merchants daughter... I think not she is not of royal blood she would only bring death and bear daughters no sons she would be a curse to our line" he said without a seconds thought.
"Father I love her!" I shouted at him desperate to make him see how much she ment to me.
"If you marry her you will wallow in your own blood the people will have no respect for you now get your head out of the clouds and act more like a prince less you are unworthy to wear your crown" He said sharply his words hitting me as if a dagger had entered my chest.
"Perhaps you are not worthy of the crown you wear" I said deeply before leaving the throne room. My fathers words had cut me like a dagger but his words would not keep me from the one I loved I would find a way to make him see that she was worthy of a crown and that I too could carry the burden of this.
Later that night I walked downstairs and took my place for dinner my father's face looking pale and cold his very eyes losing their light of life. "Father are you alright?" I asked looking closely at him.
"Yes why would you think differently" he said as he ate his food.
"you are awefully pale and your eyes are dark" I said calmly.
"My health is fine" he said as his eyes continued to fall his head falling forward until his whole body fell onto the table.
"Father! You there go get the physician and you get my father up and wipe that food from his face" I ordered jumping up though I already knew he was dead I wanted to know why.
The royal physician came with great haste but had no reasoning as to why he had fallen without going about some tests.
"Sire there is not I can do he has passed but I can tell you this...he was not killed by any normal form of assassin" he said looking over my father courps.
"Then what killed him" I demanded the physician looking up at me.
"I would have to do a few tests to know the true cause before we lay him to rest then a coorination must be held for you sire" He said as he got help to move my father to be tested upon like some kind of animal.
"Do what you have to and nothing more" I said as I walked to my room and paced lost in thought not seeing Dylis walk in.
"So about how long are you going to walk before you draw a line into your floor with your feet?" he chuckled watching me jump.
"Can you not do that" I said looking at him while sitting on the floor where I had fallen.
"No it's more fun watching you jump five feet my lord" he said walking over and helping me up.
"Oh please don't start that Darius" I said sitting on my bed letting my boots fall to the floor of my room.
"You are going to have to get used to it Trystan" He responded.
"Yes I know the physician is trying to figure out what killed him" I said laying back on the bed.
"are you certain it was not the..." I interupted with outrage sitting up quickly.
"No it was no means of self harm or assassins work there was no evidence of poison or other matters so just don't Darius" I said sharply Dylis closing his mouth and falling silent before leaving the room.
Later that night the physician walked into my room telling me that the death was caused by an infected wound though the King had not been wounded any time before.
"How could this have happned" I said confused and angry.
"we are not sure my lord though the signs are clear he must have injured himself or someone else tried to kill him and he didn't seek medical aid" He said to me before looking to me.
"You must take the throne Trystan" he said as he took a step towards me.
"I can't not until we have a proper mourning and a festival of life" I said dismissing the physician from my chamber laying down and curling into a tight ball my dreams plauged with things my father said to me and the things my father did for his people.
