When the sun rose I got up dressing leaving Joseline in bed meeting Darius in the hallway heading to the dungeons "did the assasins get put in bonds?" I asked as we walked.
"yes the did Trystan" he responded matching my pace.
"must we walk so fast" he said and I chuckled and slowed.
"sorry I forgot you have the pace of a sheep" I laughed getting a light punch to the sholder the fun and games ending when we found the right cell the younger of the boys being held there.
"Ah good day to you oh great one" said the boy mocking me with a half hearted bow of undesired respect.
"how can I please the peasant and his slave this grand day" he said as he walked up to the bars of the cell.
"well so much spunk for someone who is going to die just like his brother" I said back to him in a whisper his face going pale and his eyes fashing wildly in anger and loss though his brother was untouched.
"You killed my brother! you will pay for this you dirty royal scum!" he shouted spitting and snarling like a guard dog.
"no not yet but at sunrise tomorrow he will be the first to die unless you can tell me who sent you to kill me and my wife while we slept" I said to him my head tilted slightly.
"I would rather die before I told you anything" he said stepping back from the front bars.
"very well first you will watch your brother hang then you will have the same done to you...Your fate is sealed" I said walking away the boy finding reason but to late I would not listen to him for his words ment nothing to me now he shouts echoing through the dungeon.
I went through the castle again and went to wake Joseline who rolled into my arms "did you talk with the boys yet?" She asked.
"I spoke with the younger of the two who sealed his own fate he would rather die for his honor and that he shall I have yet to speak with the older boy" I said as I kissed her then went out to the stockaids to the boy who stood there.
"Good morning lad" I said as I walked up to him the boy glaring at me.
"what say you" I continued.
"I have nothing to say I was only doing my job so I could get enough to feed my brother" he said to me looking at the cobbles beneath us.
"So you got hired to Kill me and my wife for a bag of gold" I said looking at him.
"Yes sire I didn't have much choice in the matter" He said.
"You can stop giving me the sob story who hired you and what did they want" I said to him his face changing.
"that's the thing with you royals you always assume we were hired to do something I was trying to get some money a few gems or something to sell for money or food what part of that don't you understand!" he shouted at me.
"Us royals can never be sure of who is telling a tale or who speaks the truth" I responded before I took one step closer.
"your brother would rather see you hang than tell me anything so keep that in mind as we wrap a rope around your neck" I said walking away from him his rage clear as he realized how much of a traitor his brother was.
That night I fell on the bed next to Joseline he voice soft in my ear "must you kill them Trystan I spoke with Matildia and she said you don't think with your heart you think with your mind only" she said to me.
"Matilda is wrong the hanging is not public it will be private I am doing this to show them that love is stronger than knowledge I could care less about their stories and hate I shall wish to see how they fight to save each other" I said as I fell asleep next to her.
I woke up before the sun rose and walked out to the tall hanging post the man getting everything ready and testing all the doors and such the rope being tied in a noose the boys being brought out in the arms of guards six guards on each man the younger boy looking miserable seeing his brother.
"bring the older one up he is first" I said from my spot the boy being drug up the stairs and the rope is put around his neck and tightened by hand the younger brother fighting violently against the guards a nod from me causing the hangman to drop the older brother the rope falling all the way through the older brother scrambeling up guards pulling him up the rope being removed from his neck.
"I told you brother some day your words will end my life perhaps fate is more kind than you thought" He said to his younger brother the guards releasing them with a bag of silver and food.
"I don't want you in my castle ever again" I said to them as they left the rest of the day uneventful falling into a dark night filled with rainfall.
