Ripley pulled her chair closer to her study desk. On the desk were heaps of philosophy textbooks and paperwork, and a framed cut-out obituary of her dad. Her bedchamber was as spacious and luxurious as a high-end condominium, which was expected for a high-ranking citizen living in the palace. It had a flat-screen television, a private bathroom, a walk-in wardrobe, six-star kitchen, study area and its very own veranda that offered a gorgeous view of the sea.

But all of those mattered little to Ripley at the moment. In her hand was a radio. Her fingers fumbled around the drawer of her desk to look for some old batteries she knew were in there somewhere. When she finally found them, she installed them into the device.

She switched the radio on.

Instantly, the speakers began blaring with static; its sudden loudness almost making her jump out of her skin. She quickly muted it and looked over her shoulder to check on her 'children', which were her baby Pokemon. They were all still sound asleep.

Phew, Ripley whispered as a wave of relief washed over her. She turned up the volume so that it was audible enough for her. She then started surfing from radio channel to radio channel. Once in  while, she'd stop to yawn. She was actually exhausted from a long day at work, but there was word that something critical happened at Adaru City about an hour ago, and she desperately wanted to find out what.

"Breaking News," the radio announcer's voice buzzed through the speaker.

She stopped pressing the 'surf' button and placed the radio on her desk. She then leaned closer to the speaker.

"Citizens of Adaru City had to end their celebration of Redlyn Day tonight after the city was attacked by Zaff insurgents 45 minutes ago. The city, which is now in a state of blackout for classified reasons is under temporary lock-down by the military in an effort to stop the remaining Zaff insurgents from escaping. So far, more than 650 Zaff insurgents have been arrested and are to be sent off to Sondim Prison after interrogation.

"A cargo ship carrying several tonnes of explosives was intercepted at the port. After thorough searching, the authorities have found a transponder to detonate the explosives but for reasons that are not yet known, was never put to use. The searching procedure is still underway.

"Meanwhile, citizens of Adaru as well as Eonaria have reported witnessing what looked like an airship falling into the ocean. A team of military divers have been dispatched to investigate.

"As of now, the military is trying their best to reach the highest authority of Adaru, his grace: the immaculate Baron Leon to help with the investigation but for reasons unknown, he could not be contacted--"

Ripley heard a short rap on the door. She muted the radio and turned her attention to her visitor. "Can I help you?" she muttered just loud enough for the person to hear, but not to wake her babies.

"My lady, Hilbert has been brought over to the palace from Adaru and he requests to see you. He is waiting for you at the courtyard," the person, a man, informed her.

Hilbert! She nearly squealed. He was there when it happened! She had so many questions right now and he was the one to ask. "I'll be out in a second. Escort me," she requested.

"Of course my lady," the voice replied obediently.

Ripley got out of her chair and tied her soft  white hair into a neat ponytail. Then, she put on a simple robe to conceal the scanty nightgown that she wore.

"Take me to him," Ripley requested the guard as she stepped out of her bedchamber and shut the door quietly behind her.

"Yes my lady," the guard bowed and lead the way.
