The world around me is silent. The night sky sighs as the clouds roll by to reveal their lights. As the moon shines through to holes, a fox trots near my feet. He stops and sniffs, but scurries along in fear. I take a deep breath as the blades of grass tickle my cheeks. Birds nestled in the branches above me flap their wings. A small blade of wheat falls down and lands on my chest. I blink and the world turns. Time is running by as I take another breath. A soft whistle floats through the air. It's pitch high and strong, but faint. I turn my head to the direction, but the shadow runs from view not wanting to be found. I blink again and it's daytime. The sun is smiling and the clouds have floated away. The rays peek through the openings the leaves allow. As the limbs moan, squirrels climb their bark. Their squeaks blend seamlessly into the noisy yet quiet atmosphere surrounding me. The smell of a blooming flower hits my nose and I sneeze, scaring a family of raccoons. A low hum enters the air and I turn my head, but the voice seems to float away. This being that wishes to be found evades my every attempt. It's mischievous and mysterious. I inhale the light smell of pine and blink. The world around me has changed. It's as if the color has been drained and the animals have all left. The grass has died and the leaves have fallen. I gather a handful and crunch them between my fingers. The particles fall onto my eye lashes and I bat them away. A hand brushes mine and our eyes meet. My heart starts to beat and my lungs tighten. They some closer and my view get darker. As they slowly start to consume my sight, I realize just who it is. My shadow. "Where have you been hiding?" I ask through a short breath. It smiles and comes closer. Our bodies start to mold and I can feel my being connect with its. My screams echo in the emptiness. As my blood starts to freeze, I see a flash before me. A face I know, but cannot place. My heart pumps and it flashes again. More details, but still no name. Nerves cause me to feel again and they flash again. Their voice ringing in my head and I feel their name creeping on my tongue. Saliva rejuvenates my mouth and I say their name as if I had said it all my life. Lùcas. Mo gràdh siorruidh, my eternal love.
