After a good two hours of Julie and Ty trying to explain pop culture and common knowledge facts, we quickly learned that whatever happened to us greatly reduced the skill to memorize basic things.
The only thing we could do were names. And those took a lot out of us.
We even started make a game out of it, identify the thing and we get a point. I was beating Simon by a few points but not a lot.
"Alright, what is this landmark." Julie said, pulling up a picture of a reddish trench in the middle of nowhere.
"Mariana's trench." I stated. Julie grumbled while Simon gave a confused look. "What, am I wrong."
"Is it the Beatles?" Simon asked. Ty groaned and but his head in his lap. I looked at us with a disappointing groan.
"No, no it's not." He grumbled. "This, is the Grand Canyon!" He shouted. "Look, this is the Grand Canyon!" I looked at the picture and scoffed in annoyance.
"It just looks like a hole."
"It is a big and beautifully majestic hole!" He yelled, "and as Americans you will appreciate the hole!"
"So, let me get this straight." Simon said, racking his brain for the random facts he just learned. "We have to love eagles, red white and blue, the Grand Canyon and, what was the other one?" He asked.
"Freedom I think." I laughed. "And giant green lady." He looked at us and just moaned in awful agony.
"Come on people! Learn your references!" He yelled. Me and Simon just laughed at him. I looked over at him and laughed.
"These people are ridiculous." I laughed, "I mean, why would these things matter to people? Who the fuck really debates between the differences of Xbox and prostation?"
"PlayStation." Julie corrected. "You have to wait for the remotes on a PlayStation to charge. It's annoying. I much rather prefer batteries."
We charge you and use you again. You power our empire. You are our battery
That word, it set off something deep in my gut. Quickly and painfully I felt my whole body shake and feel sick. My whole body started to sweat and I felt rushing pain in everything. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I turned automatically grabbed the first thing I felt.
I heard a scream and I shoved it away to grab my head. I needed to hold it, I felt like if I didn't hold it together it would explode.
I had paining flashes of doctors in white with needles. The burning feeling in my neck was so bad I started scratching at my skin, I felt cold liquid running down my body.
I felt another hand I shot at it and fell over and continued to scratch. I felt the taunting smirks of people and the fear imprinted in my soul.
I didn't stop until I heard the screaming, I took deep and imprinted breaths and realized I was making those noises. I heard someone calling my name I opened my eyes and saw the worried looks of the teenagers surrounding me.
The attack seemed to fade as quickly as it had started. I felt wet marks on my neck and face and looked into Julie's brown eyes that hovered gently over me.
"Julie?" I mumbled, looking at her. She went to touch me but hesitated and wiped the light tear build up on her face. I looked up at her and winced.
"Mia, you can hear me?" She asked. I went to sit up but I felt uncontrollable pains in my neck and chest. Slight memory flashes kept up but the pain had faded.
"I can hear you." I mumbled, she reached out and grabbed my arm and smiled. I looked over and say Simon who had a hand over his mouth silently watching. Ty on the other hand, had his hands in his hair, looking sickly and having the worst time. "I remember the pain." I stammered, pulling my brain back together. "I remember needles, and batteries."
