"Mia!" A loud and energetic voice called, shaking my arm. "Mia, wake up!" I slowly opened my eyes to see a dark and glowing face welcoming me. Waking me up from my restless and unsatisfying sleep.
"Good morning Florida." I groaned. "Can I please have five more minutes?"
"But Mia, I miss you." God, I couldn't argue that. Florida was the girl whom I saw frozen in the charger room. She was about twelve and she was exhilarated and full of energy. Like everyone else she couldn't remember anything about her life, not her parents or anything.
I had named her Florida, after some far away sunny place that me and Julie talked about. Her smile reminded me of a sun. Her big brown eyes reminded me of Julie and her poufy and crazed hair reminded me of a wild bush, in the forest of our old beach house. I don't know if it was one of these things or all of them that caused me to take her personally under my wing.
"Alright, I am up." I said, slowly dragging myself into my chair and sitting there groggily for a moment. "What is on the agenda for this fine afternoon young lady?"
"Well, I have lessons with Ty, then I am free." She explained. Ty and Simon had set up rotating lessons for the people, teaching them basic skills and knowledge for the outside world. "I would like to go to an actual school."
"Like, public school?" I watched as she nodded excitedly. I almost even seen the sparkle in her eye. "Well, we can talk about that. Maybe one day."
She pulled me to the main hall, but we just called it that. Honestly, it was the common area that we turned half into a tiny gym and the other into chairs and tables. It was doubled as a cafeteria and a classroom. Our set up was cluttered and messy but it was our home.
We did ok, considering the only one with actually memories of what a place like should look like was blind.
"Alright, you be good ok?"
"Ok!" She nodded happily, running over to a table where a group of younger people were already sitting. "Have a good day Mia!"
I waved at her before rolling off to join Simon, Ty and a few others sitting around a table. I overhead their conversation and Ty telling a story having to do with Macy, whom was sitting at a chair of her own.
"You're not teaching today?" I asked Ty, rolling in between Simon and a blond girl whose name I forgotten.
"No." He smiled, hearing my voice. "Jersey wanted to give it a shot. I gave him some notes."
"How did you write?"
"I got Simon to write it." He said back, raising his eyebrows slightly. "I win." I looked side to side awkwardly as the conversation cut down. People were never really my strong suit, whenever most people attempted on being my friend I shot back in sarcasm and snarky comments.
So making people feel welcome isn't my specialty. That was Ty's thing, he made talking to people look easy.
"Did you sleep well Mia?" The blond asked, looking over at my curiously.
No.
I shook my head in response looking down at my hands. Somewhat avoiding the conversation.
"I really like your hair." I heard her try again. I looked up through my white hair and smiled.
"It used to be black, but then I was shoved into a freezer. Or at least that's what they tell me." I mumbled. I saw her failed expression, like she was a puppy and I just kicked her. "I like yours."
"Thanks!" She smiled. "I like it too." Watched as she stretched her hand out to mine and gave me a giddy smile. "I am Paris! Well, that's What Ty named me."
