ADAPA
The myth of Adapa deals with the topic of immortality as many other Mesopotamian stories do. Adapa was the first man created and gifted with the power of intelligence and wisdom who was given to him by the god of wisdom, Ea.
Adapa was the king of the great city of Eridu who went out to fish in the Persian Gulf. However, his ship was capsized by the South Wind and it threw him into the sea. Out of anger, Adapa broke the wing of the south wind and for seven straight days, the wind could not blow from the damage caused by the mortal man.
The sky god Anu became angered by this act and Adapa was called upon the gods to explain himself. Ea counseled him on behaving himself in front of the gods and because he is Adapa's father and creator, he trusted him. In fear of Ani possibly gifting the mortal man with immortality, he told his son to not consume any drinks or food given to him by the gods.
And so, Adapa declined the food and drinks that were shaped as immortality. His father had tricked him from accepting such a treasure for mankind.
