How would you describe joy? Well, I think it is very similar to Amortentia, the love potion from Harry Potter, that smells differently to everyone. To me it would smell of book, freshly cut grass, and rainfall, with maybe a hint of a vanilla latte in there for good measure. That is also what I think joy is. Joy is different for everyone, as it should be, but joy does the same thing to everyone. It sparks the soul. Souls are bright and powerful anyway, but when you find something you love, you are told that it 'sparks joy,' it sparks the soul. Gives it a boost when you most need it. I think it is so hard to come by, people come and go in this world thinking that they have lived, that they have had joy in their life, when, in reality, they haven't. There soul has not been truly sparked. You know when it has. You can see it. People are uncontrollably happy and their smiles reach their eyes. That is the most beautiful thing, seeing someone's smile reach their eyes. It is pure beauty. When you become a new person after having something happen, that can be a spark of joy. The spark can be what spurred your forward, helped you through to the other side, initiated the change. Joy can be such a rare thing and I think, in some form or another, people search their whole lives for it, and believe it or not, I think that there is more than enough out there for everyone, thrice over. Just because you have experienced true joy once, does not mean that is it, does not mean you have had your fill. It is like passion. You can have more than one passion in your life, sometimes you find room for a passion you never thought it would be possible to have. It is the same with joy. Joy will creep up on you, it will surprise you, it will catch you off guard and knock you sideways, but in the best of ways possible. Because joy is such a great emotion, and it is sad that not everyone experiences it nearly as much as they should. I mean, just look at the little joy representative on Inside Out, how could you not want to have that. To be able to look back on your life and know the exact moments you found it. Wedding days are the most common, and births. Those of some of the most joy filled days in the universe. Music. Finding a new band to love, that is a spark of joy. A new favourite film, spark of joy. A new best friend, spark of joy. A dog sitting on you, spark of joy. A child's laugh, spark of joy. A kiss from the love of your life, a spark of joy. Surrounding yourself with amazing people, a spark of joy. At least, that is what I deeply and truly think.
