After another week both Monika and Sayori are in a healthy enough condition to be discharged from the hospital. We thank the doctors and nurses and pay all of the bills in full, leaving a wealthy "donation" to ensure they don't speak of the incidents that happened in their building. We stand in a field near the hospital and double check our belongings. I focus intensely as we prepare to teleport. I haven't taken 4 people with me before and I can't help but feeling nervous. Yuri, Monika, and Natsuki link hands. Natsuki reaches out and grabs my hand as Sayori squeezes my hand reassuringly. I close my eyes, and take a deep breath. I focus on the warmth radiating from Sayori's soft palm. I imagine a sunny day in her backyard, like when we celebrated Easter, or just calm dinners sitting in a blissful silence, enjoying the breeze outside. Suddenly the memories become too hot, and my head begins pounding. The feelings of warmth have become memories of searing heat and I suddenly feel stranded in a desert. I can't feel any hands holding mine and my mouth goes dry. I panic and begin shouting out the names of all the girls but eventually I just shout for Sayori, begging her to respond. I run out of breath and the heat steals the air from my lungs. Slowly, and painfully, I pass out from the lack of oxygen.
When I wake up, I am in what I quickly recognize as Sayori's bed. I throw the covers off of me and stand up but the room begins to spin and I quickly lose balance, falling hard onto the wood floor. I suppose with all the commotion I made when I fell I must have caught Sayori's attention because I hear feet running up the stairs in my direction. I try to push myself off the ground but she's already in the room by the time I've gotten myself rolled back onto my back and started pushing myself up. She quickly grabs my arm and helps pull me up, and I wince as my head continues to pound. "You need to rest! We have no idea what happened or what your condition is and we did get Okatsu to check on you but she can't find anything." She speaks quickly and panickedly. How long have I been here?
I raise my eyebrow at the name. "Yuri's sister?" Sayori questions, wondering if I remember her.
"Oh right! She helped out a lot when you were..." I trail off, trying not to remember what we've gone through. I sit down on Sayori's bed and I suddenly realize how comforting it is to be here. The room smells like her and I reach out and grab her hand. Her hands are soft and warm and remind me of all my happiest memories. I start feeling a bit more relaxed and slowly feel myself drifting off. Sayori leans down and places her lips against my forehead and the world drifts away.
-----------------------------------------
I wake up to voices downstairs. I slowly push myself off of the bed, gently sliding out of the covers and shivering as the wood floors cold seeps into my skin. I take gentle steps towards the door to the hallway, and open it silently. The voices are intelligible now, and I try to catch up on what the voices are talking about. "It's too dangerous to bring him with us. He was heavily impacted by that teleport attempt and its possible the emperor could take this to his advantage. He could even kill him! I can't lose y/n!" One voice says panickedly.
"None of us want to lose him but we have to get to the emperor somehow. He's our strongest fighter, even weakened. We can't do this any other way." Another voice says forcibly.
"No. No. We aren't dragging him down. He's hurt! We can't do this. I won't let you!" The first voice says adamantly. I recognize the first voice. It's Sayori. Suddenly the air is filled with the noise of metal against metal, a sword being unsheathed. I peer over into the living room. Sayori is holding her sword in front of her defensively, and Yuri, Monika, Natsuki, and Okatsu all look frightened by her sudden outburst. I nearly trip down the stairs in my hurry. "Sayori stop!" I stop at the bottom of the stairs as a wave of nausea hits me. "What are you doing up? You need to rest and get better..." Sayori trails off, lowering her sword a bit.
"What's happening here anyways? Why are you threatening your friends with a frickin sword?!" I ask, my voice trembling. Am I more scared for them, or for me? The wave of nausea hasn't gone away but suddenly I'm very dizzy. Sayori quickly sheathes her sword and steps back from the whole group, not making eye contact with anyone. "They're trying to make you fight a battle you can't win." Sayori says quietly.
"That's far from the truth. You are blinded by your love Sayori. Yes, y/n needs some time to recover but we don't have that long until the emperor attacks again. We have to strike first. We can't do that without him." Yuri says in a calm, patient tone.
"She's right..." I slowly nod to myself, and sit down on the stairs. Okatsu walks up and starts checking my heart rate. She hands me some pills and a water bottle and I take them all, hoping the nausea will go away. Everybody is quiet now.
"When are we planning this attack? And why wasn't involved in this conversation if I'm such a crucial piece of the plan?" I asked, not masking my annoyance. Everyone awkwardly looks down, avoiding meeting my eyes. Sayori walks up to me silently and grabs my hands. "I didn't want you to... I didn't want them to risk your life for this... I- I need you.." Sayori says trying not to show the others how much this is really affecting her. I swallow hard and try not to let her words break my heart even more. " You and I both know it has to be done." I whisper gently into her ear. A tear slips gently down her face.
"When?"
"Tomorrow." Yuri and Monika share a look as Natsuki tells me this.
"Okay. Let's get packed and do some training then."
