'Im looking forward to Germany...but I'm looking forward to coming back here, because here is where i started.'
Elvis PresleyWith his guys to goof around with off-duty, the rigours of Army life didn't seem so bad. Although Elvis had not wanted any special treatment in the army, some aspects of his life were notably different to those of 'regular' G.I.s. in Germany, for example,
Fellow battalion members lived in basic quarters, Elvis would get a taxi back to his villa where his grandmother would prepare his choice of home-cooked food. And no other soldier could expect screaming girls waiting for him at the end of each day as Elvis did.
But despite this, Elvis proved himself to be a worthy soldier- an equal to the other men.
When his company moved to Grafenwöhr near the Czech border, he was forced to endure the same cold and unpleasant conditions as the other men and he impressed his sergeant with his resourcefulness.
Let me know what you think!! xoxo
