The blade halted just above your wrist as you opened your eyes. Mark was just standing there with a fearless expression on his face, hands tucked in the pockets of his red robe. You had never seen Mark with such a confident, determined stance. Hopefully that meant that he was certain that his plan was going to work.

"So you finally decided to show up." Mask glitched away to stand in front of you, hands tucked behind his back. Mark didn't hesitate for even a second, continuing his approach. "Very bold, pest."

You stood up and backed away from the two, intending on getting the fuck out of their way, but you were stopped by a shadow wall behind you. Mask's warning glance over his shoulder made your gut wrench, a wave of cold washing over you. You hated when he looked at you like that, like he owned you or something.

"I forgot how much you like to talk." Mark sneered. "You're despicable, you know that? How many timelines do you have to defile before you're satisfied?"

"Enough to bring you crawling back to your master." Mask smiled, posture straight and his head held high. "So how will this unfold this time around? How long must we play this game of cat and mouse before you realize the futility of your resistance?"

"This is the end for both of us and you know it."

"Oh please, we both know you don't have the balls to take me out like that. Unless you're willing to finally fulfill your side of the deal, the final act will always be the same. Only the details change."

"Still holding a grudge, huh?"

Mark glanced at you briefly, sweat dripping down from his forehead. He had looked so sure of himself before so what happened? Had that brave face simply been a facade, a way to steal his nerves so that he could finally face the monster that had been haunting him for years?

"oF cOuRsE I aM!" He growled, taking a step closer to Mark with his hands balled into fists. Black energy flared from his form like Dark's red and blue hues, but you could actually feel the power rolling off of him in waves. "i'LL nEvEr hAvE tHe pOwEr i cRavE iN a sToLEn bOdY! I wAs sO cLOsE tO hAviNg mY oWn fOrM, bEiNg mY oWn pErSoN and yOu tOoK tHaT frOm mE!"

"Oh boo-fucking-hoo. It's never going to happen so let it go." Mark glanced at you again.

"I'll let your insolence slide for the moment." Mask looked back at you as well. "Why are you staring at her? Afraid she'll get caught in the crossfire?"

Mark didn't say a word, simply glancing off to the side to avoid admitting to anything. A deep chuckle rumbled in Mask's chest, his black aura disappearing now that he had calmed down.

"She reminds you of your precious district attorney, doesn't she?" Mask disappeared for a second, leaving Mark with a panicked look on his face.

You felt a rush of cool air behind you followed by an arm wrapping around you. Something sharp was pressed against your neck. Given the electric feeling of the object pressed against your neck, you assumed it was Mask's energy knife.

"I bet it would just crush you to watch me kill her." His voice was next to your ear, his breath caressing your skin. "She's so fragile, I might not be able to help myself!"

"Don't you dare. She has nothing to do with our feud."

"You should feel grateful that I find her useful."

The floor swayed beneath you as your head spun, your body being thrown to the floor. Mask stood above you with that wicked smile you had grown so accustomed to seeing, following it with a sly wink. And in an instant, Mask was gone.

You scrambled to your feet to see where he had went, only to find him standing in front of Mark once more. The pair stared each other down, Mark squaring his shoulders as a knife appeared in his hand. Just as soon as Mask had teleported, the two were at each others throats.
