I know there's so many errors in literally every chapter. I literally write when I'm walking to class, in the car, or half asleep.
Plus I'm a science major so I write for fun because it gives me a break from Bronsted Theory, Oxyacids, and Action Potentials. So sometime in the future I'll edit but eh you'll have to pretend it makes sense for now😂
——Boston, Massachusetts——
July 8th, 1945There was only 6 months left until Iris and Vincent tied the knot. He was an impatient man but planned the date longer than he would want it for Iris to adjust.
It's been 2 months since Iris fled from Cleveland, chasing after Vincent and accepting his proposal. Vincent could not wait longer than a year to marry her so they agreed on 8 months. It was enough time for her parents...or just her mother and the Goddard's to be present.
Iris had come to learn a few things about him.
1. He liked to eat certain cereal with orange juice instead of milk.
2. When he dips his cookies in milk he does it in a bowl so they could sit and get soggy.
3. When he's stressed or knows he's going to be in trouble he messes with his hair a lot. Cracks his knuckles when he's nervous.
4. Though he thinks Iris doesn't notice, he never sends Michael to pick up Jolene from her new school. He does it and takes her out for a snack every single time.
Vincent on the other hand learned somethings about Iris too.
1. She doesn't eat the yolk in boiled eggs.
2. She bits her lip A LOT. Mostly when she's nervous or aroused.
3. She has two types of angry. One where she snaps at Vincent and ignores him. Two when she's just annoyed with him but is more dramatic about the situation because she wants rough sex and is too shy to ask.
4. She prays for him every morning and every night when she thinks he's asleep and kisses his head after.
The two were growing exponentially. Some of his men may not like the whole interracial idea, but even they couldn't deny the indescribable chemistry they had.
The only bond that was surprisingly stronger than the bond Vincent had with Iris, was the one he had with Jolene.
Jolene looked up to her father thinking everything he does is amazing. Of course that made Vincent feel bad because he's not a good person.
He loved this little human more than Iris somehow, someway. His brain was convinced this was his biological daughter. So he treated her like his own.
The first fight between Iris and Vincent consisted of him teaching Jolene how to use a gun if she was in trouble. Iris didn't want her 7 year old touching a gun for a while.
Vincent wanted Iris to understand they life they were about to live in forgetting that Iris had experienced the life of a criminal and is knowledgeable in gun use herself.
He listened to her but still would teach Jolene mini things in their daddy-daughter dates. Like how to pick a lock, how to get out of handcuffs or being tied to a chair, where to hit someone or apply pressure to knock them unconscious.
Jolene loved it. She thought it was the coolest thing, she thought Vincent was the coolest thing. Her little face almost made Vince want to have more kids. But he decided that she was perfect enough for him. Which is why now he waited outside one of the buildings Iris worked at, to have this conversation hoping it wasn't a deal breaker.
"Vince?" Iris smiled walking outside to see Vincent waiting for her at the car. He pecked her lips softly. "Hey doll I wanna take you somewhere."
Iris knew something was up when he started cracking his knuckles. She nodded hopping in the car.
They drove in a comfortable silence when they reached a little park east of Dorchester. Vincent got out of the car before walking to her side opening the door.
Iris smiled taking his hand so they could walk the path of pretty trees and and flowers. Iris stopped the mid walk turning to face him. "What's wrong?"
Vincent tripped at her bluntness. "Oh uh so I have been thinking we should probably talk about our future yanno?" He mumbled.
Iris narrowed her eyes before nodding. "Doll I love you and Jolene. That's more than enough for me. I don't need more than you both."
Iris processed his words. "You don't want kids." She nodded. Vincent looked at her confused making her laugh. "Vincent you would literally run away from Jolene during your first few times together. You didn't like to touch her. It doesn't take a genius to figure out you didn't like children."
Vincent felt defensive at her words. "I do love Jolene Iris she means the world to me." Iris smiled placing her hand on his cheek. "I know Vince but that doesn't mean you want more children."
"But for someone who doesn't want children, you sure do finish inside of me a lot." Iris said, voice laced with mischief.
Vincent's eyes widened he hadn't even thought about that. He never once felt the need to pull out, it didn't feel right to do so. Oh how stupid he was!
He looked at her in shock. "Oh my God are you pregnant? Wow alright, um that's fine we can work through it. It's fine, we will be fine." He breathed heavily mostly talking to himself.
Iris's laughter broke through his panic attack. "Vince hun calm down." She giggled rubbing his chest. "I'm not pregnant."
Vincent exhaled his heart rate starting to slow down. "How do you know?"
Iris sighed with a sad smile. "One of the down falls of having an abusive husband was the havoc the beatings took on my body. One incident he pushed me so hard into the dresser and kicked me in the pelvic area a few times breaking the bone. When I couldn't stop bleeding between my legs Anthony took me to the hospital. Not only did I miscarry our second child I had no idea I was pregnant with, but my oviducts were so damaged there was no way I would have a successful pregnancy again."
Now Vincent felt disgusted with himself that he was relieved Iris wasn't pregnant. The fear of raising a child didn't stand a match against what she's been through. "Doll I'm so sor-" iris held her hand up and kissed his lips quickly. "It's fine Vince. I never felt the need to tell you because I knew you didn't want children."
"Do you want kids?" He asked. Iris gave a tight smile. "More children are not into the plan for me that is why I'll do anything to protect my daughter. She's the light of my life."
Vincent nodded before embracing Iris in a hug noticing she didn't answer the question. Now he felt terrible. He saw in her eyes she wanted kids and couldn't have them and he acted like an a**.
"Let's go home alright? We can get dressed and go out for a family dinner with James and Carol." He spoke softly as they walked back towards the car.
Iris smiled she didn't want him to feel so bad but appreciated his kindness. She nodded allowing him to guide her back out of the garden.
They drove back to the house telling the other about their day. NASA has made a break through on the engine for the rocket which would help speed up the process for launch.
Vincent had some deals with some people Some went well, the ones that did not Vincent didn't want to tell her the gruesome details.
When they got to the house Andrew was outside. "Hey boss Danica is here crying her boyfriend beat on her again so Charlie going after him." Vincent nodded his head before ushering Iris in the house.
"Where is she?" Iris asked. Vincent shrugged as they walked to their room. "Vince if she's being abused she needs help. I could talk to her I know what it's like." She offered.
Vincent just looked at her before proceeding to their room. "Vince I'm just sa- OH MY GOODNESS!" Iris exclaimed as they opened the door only to be greeted by a naked Danica on their bed with rose petals and chocolates.
