Chicago, Illinois
February 13th 1945Iris slipped out of her hotel room the team got in Chicago. They had a government event tonight and she was no where near ready!
Allison was waiting for her in the lobby to go dress shopping. "Let's go Iris! You kept me waiting so I'm dragging us to Lord and Taylor." She said grabbing the now emerged Iris.
"You sure have expensive tastes Alli." Iris rolled her eyes. Allison laughed waving down a taxi. The two women climbed in the car taking off letting the beauty of Chicago fill their eyes.
Iris's life was so much more intriguing. Working opened her eyes to so many new places and being in Chicago was definitely one of her favorites.
They finally got to Lord and Taylor trying on a multitude of dresses that were ridiculously over priced. Modeling the beautiful and ugly for each other laughing.
Iris finally slipped on one that wasn't stupidly priced and fit her magically. She smiled proudly at her image before showing Allison. "Hun you look beautiful." Allison praised.
She had a thick accent because she was from New Jersey. "Thank you Al did you get something for yourself?" Allison nodded excitedly.
"Let's get some lunch then we can go get ready." Allison proposed locking their arms together. Iris nodded and the two beautiful women paid for their things and walked out of the store ignoring the stares.
They sat outside on the patio of a beautiful restaurant sipping on some wine. "So Iris I don't mean to be nosy but you never did say what had you so distraught when you first moved to Cleveland."
Iris sighed into her glass. "I've been through a lot, I'm not comfortable talking about a lot of it but the point is I met a terrible man, had a terrible marriage, met another man... and then left."
She quickly gulped down half of her glass. "Ah Ah you're holding back on me who was this man?" Allison leaned in interested. Iris just shook her head. "Oh come on Iris I know your husband must have been an abuser because women never leave their husbands." Allison said sipping her white wine.
Iris laughed. "You could say that." Allison pouted. "What about the other guy?"
Iris just chuckled shaking her head. "He was... also a bad man but..." She trailed off.
You shouldn't miss him Iris.
"Allison I don't want to talk about it anymore if that's alright." Allison nodded in understanding. The two ate and drank for a couple hours before waving down a taxi to go get dressed for the gala.
Iris slipped in the new gown and looked at herself appreciatively. She worked hard, she deserved this. She was going to meet important members US government, and people who wanted to know all about the space things there were working on.
She put on some makeup and fixed up her hair. Taking a deep breath she walked downstairs to join her colleagues. They all praised each other on their looks. Iris joined Allison and Bennett her two closest coworkers.
"W-wow Iris you look beautiful!" Bennett tripped over his words. Bennett was Iris's date for the event. Allison was going with Doc. He wasn't the nicest because of his dislike for blacks but tried his best to be civil.
"Thank you Bennett you looks handsome as always. Let's go yeah?" She smiled pulling him to one of the cars.
