Caution this is a long chapter
I knew that this was best for her so I didn't hold up a fight and I just waited.
I paced down the corridor with my hand tucked into my leather jacket pocket.
I was still scared for Emma but I knew that the doctors, nurses and even Doctor Whale were doing the best for her. I knew that we were in the safest place for her and that if anything happened, she was in a place for immediate assistance.
It had been about half an hour, when the nurse pushed the stretcher through the double doors and bought Emma back into the corridor.
I walked back to her side and gripped her hand once more as she was pushed back down the endless corridor with the doctors and nurses trailing behind her.
When we arrived back down the corridor, all of the doctors and nurses helped Emma into her bed, putting her in a comfy position.
The nurses and doctors then left me and Emma to ourselves for a while and told us the X-ray results would be with us in a little less than an hour.
I nodded an commended my thanks and Emma smiled, indicating her thanks and we were left to our own company.
I pushed the bed barriers down and climbed in her bed next to her and she moved her bruised arm over so she could wrap it around my chest. I put my arm around her shoulders as I once again placed my hand on her stomach. As I held her tight a thought suddenly occured to me.
I asked her a question, raising my eyebrow, making her laugh in the process. "Are you hungry? You've not ate for hours."
She immediately nodded back to me, looking into my eyes. I manoveored myself of her body and pulled the bell at the side of the bed, this told the nurses that we needed some help.
After a couple of minutes a nurse came in and tendered to our needs. She told us that she was now allowed to eat as it had been a couple of hours since she had the heart attack. She told us it would have to be something very boring as after heart attacks as you should only eat things with a lack of salt.
Emma chose the crackers with unsalted butter and the nurse then offered to grab me a cooked meal but I politely declined and just asked for what Emma was having. I didn't want to eat anything she couldn't have too.
The nurse smiled and left the room, telling us the X-ray man would be along soon.
Emma rested her head on my shoulder, and I rested mine on hers, mumbling into her shoulder telling her how much I loved her.
She turned back and looked into my eyes, smiling and we just sat, watching each other until the doctor came in.
He came in with photos of the Emma's bones in his hand and he told us what would need to happen. He said the break was in two places, meaning that the bones were misaligned, and that he would need to put the bones back into place. Luckily this would need no surgery and he could just do it.
He gave Emma an injection just above her leg as he waited for another nurse to come and assist.
The injection was apparently an anesthetic, which was something which meant Emma couldn't feel it.
When the nurse came, she came in with a trolley of plaster and bandages to make Emma a cast once the doctor had finished straightening her leg.
I held Emma's hand all the way through and looked at her. She took regular breaths through a gas mask as she held my hand looking into my eyes.
When the doctor had finally finished, the nurse came and put Emma's leg up to her knee in a plaster cast, to secure it into place. Whilst the nurse did this, Emma still took regular breaths from the mask, squinting in pain as the anesthetic worn of.
When they had completed the plaster, the nurse called for some other assistance and they transferred Emma back onto the stretcher. I helped Emma get comfy by adjusting her pillows and twisting her body to the side so there wasn't a lot of pressure on her abdomen.
The nurses then took us down the corridor as I held Emma's hand, comforting her for about the 100th time that day.
She still had that look of fright in her eyes and the look of pain from all the struggles she had been through. However, I was there and kept reassuring her, telling her it was okay, all would be okay.
They took Emma into the X-ray machine as I waited in the corridor impatiently.
As I was waiting I saw Doctor Whale walking towards me, looking straight at me, not adjusting his eye contact as he pondered down the long corridor.
When he saw me, he placed one of his hands on my back as I turned my head to look at him as he started shooting scared looks at me.
I remember me asking him if everything was okay and I remember the look in his eyes as he spoke. I clearly remember him telling me that Emma most likely wouldn't recover from the experience she has endured for a long time and that most likely she would have to be in hospital for a very long time.
I remember the single gasp I made looking at him in disbelief as he patted me on my back once more and headed back down the corridor, not looking back.
I had this thought trapped in my mind as the doctor's bought Emma out of X-ray room and whisked her down the corridor.
As the doctor's helped her onto the bed, she turned to look at me. She looked worried at me and I couldn't help but feel the guilt of not telling her creep up on me.
After all, I was sure the Doctor's would tell her in their own time and I didn't have too.
I looked back at her and nodded with a lack of content. She didn't have to know yet, I thought to myself. It would just hurt her more than she could handle.
As I climbed back onto her bed, her now casted leg enabled me to cause no more pain in hitting it.
We sat and cuddled close until the nurse came in with the crackers for each of us and placed them on a tray for us to eat on.
We both sat contempt with each others company on the bed as we ate our crackers. I'm not sure about Emma, but four crackers had not filled me up at all. I was still starving. I'm pretty sure she was still hungry aswell as I heard her stomach rumble after eating.
She looked at me and laughed as I had with her. We both sat happily with each other until late into the night until we fell asleep on each others shoulders.
