I must have read this letter over and over again about a thousand times but I still could not believe it. My mom was crying so hard I could barely think but I could not look up from the thick formal document in my hand. Dad had an arm wrapped around her and my younger brother was trying to look over my shoulder to read it.

We regret to inform you that your child, Avery Grimsbane has been detected using witchcraft in a public place. Upon further investigation, it has been discovered that your family has blood relation to a long family line of powerful magic users. Due to new laws in place for the country, any adolescent supernaturals must attend a school equipped to deal with their differences. A bus shall come to escort Avery in 2 hours. Any attempt to hinder or stop the escort shall be met with harsh punishment ranging from prison to burning at the stake. Necessity shall be provided but feel free to take what you deem fit. Any further questions should be directed to the escorters upon arrival.

And that was it. No second page and no back, just a single paragraph telling her that she had to got to some school or get burned at the stake! She sighed, this was all her fault. She let it slip one time and now look what happened!

Her brother whistled when he finished reading over her shoulder," Dang, what did you do?"

Avery thought back.

*"Hey, loser, I heard you just got back from the looney bin. Welcome back!"

I blushed, it was the prettiest girl in school, Janet Johnson. She was a bit of a stereotypical queen bee/bully, but I really did have a bit of a crush on her.

"What were you in there for anyway?" She said her friends snickering along with her and making a bit of a scene in the hallway.

I looked down at my shoes, " W-well depression and I was kinda planning sui-!"

She pushed me down hard. My back slammed against the floor and the kids around started laughing.

"Liar! I bet you went 'cause your crazy and you keep talking to yourself! Maybe they should have kept your freaky self in there so I wouldn't have to look at you anymore!"

I bit my lip to keep from crying. My cheeks were red from embarrassment as all around me my peers laughed and pointed. I looked up at Janet, anger gleaming in my eye.

"Actually, Janet, it was a mental Hospital. You know hospital? Like the one your dads' gonna be in when he finally admits how sick he's gotten..."

Everyone stopped laughing at once. Janet looked taken aback," H-how d..."

"And Jill?" I said look at the girl in Janet posse the one who teased me most throughout the years" Yes, Brad is cheating on you and, yes, it is with Janet. It 's been with Janet since you guys started dating." I got up with a sigh and brushed off my pants.

"Also Jessica, you should stop making out with the teacher, he's not helping your grades." With that I left. Walking down the hallway with my head held high. Behind me Janet screeched," Loser!" Followed by of chorus of students chanting the word. But I couldn't hear them. They no longer mattered to me.

"I guess, I'll uh... go pack a bag?" I got up from the couch but was wrenched right back down by my mom .

"No, you won't. You are not going anywhere!"

"Mom, I have to. If I don't, they are gonna..."

"She's right, dear." Dad said he grabbed the hand that was holding me.

"It might be for the best. We don't have a choice but I think going to this school might be a good thing for her."

"No!" My mom cried," A good thing would be staying with us. A good thing would be continuing to go to her regular school like a normal child!"

"She never fit in there and you know that. Maybe this is why. Maybe meeting some other people like her is just what she needs!"

Mom dropped her head defeated. I nodded to myself before getting up to go to my room. I packed a bag. Put in some outfits and another pair of shoes. Oh god, I really hope they don't have a uniform. What would this other school even be like? How long would I have to stay there?

I packed a tiny teddy bear named Gil. Don't judge me, I'm a cuddler! And I felt ready to go. As if on cue a regular school bus came and two men in black suits with sun glasses stood out front on the porch.

"You can't do this! You can't take our daughter away like this!" My mom screamed.

"Is that a challenge?" One said, looking down his sunglasses at her.

"Whatever, just stop. I'm ready to go." I sighed.

I hugged my family one last time and got onto the school bus. One of the men got on the bus and stood near the door, there was already a bus driver sitting at the wheel. Out the window, to my family I said," I'll call y'all when I get there!"

The man outside smirked and said," Actually, you won't..."

Wait, whaaa...

He stuck out a long stick that reminded me of a wand and pointed it at my family. He shouted a word in another language and light flashed out of the stick. My entire family's eyes rolled up in unison. They stood stock still with only the white of the eyes being seen in their sockets.

The man spoke," You know Avery is going to a good school. You'll miss her but you do not want to get in contact with her so that she can work hard at her studies. We were never here today and you remember Avery being very excited to be going there to her dream school."

All together they said," Yes master."

"Good, now, go inside. You were all feeling tired so you decided to take an afternoon nap. When you wake, you will forget that we had this conversation and you'll continue your day to day lives without Avery."

"Yes master."

And with that they all turned around and went back into the house and the man headed toward the bus.

"What just happened? Mom? Dad? What's wrong? Hey. Hey!" I started pounding on the window
When the man got on the bus, the bus driver immediately pulled off. I walked over to one of the men, the one who didn't do something to my parents and demanded," You have to stop the bus!"

"Give me your phone." He grunted. Confused, I decided to hand it to him. Maybe if I complied he would too. In his hand, my phone crumbled. With just one hand, he crushed my phone into a ball.

My eyes gleamed with anger," You shouldn't have done that, Slaine. What would your mate think if I told her you were being mean to kids again?"

The man, Slaine, growled low in his throat. Then he chuckled," Ross, I think this is your deal, man."

"Sit down, Avery, and I'll tell you everything." Ross said calmly

I sat down and crossed my arms.

"OK so, the school's name is SageMyth Academy for the magically gifted. This is a school for magic users, like yourself, so you can learn to control your powers. You'll get a dorm room and an allowance once we get on the island."

"Woah, woah, woah!" I threw my hand up," An island?"

"Yes, the island is called Urns Wood. It was created specifically for magical beings to reside, work etc. without the negative side of being different. The island doesn't have a bridge and the entire place is surrounded by a magical barrier but magical users can still come and go as they please. Not you though of course because you're a minor."

"That's not fair! So when can I see my family again?"

"That is up to you. The harder you work at your studies and the better you get at controlling your powers the quicker you can spend holidays with your parents."

"But I didn't even know I had powers until a week ago. I can't go to a island."

He looked confused," But we are already here?"

A portal. A purple puddle in the air was swirling on the street and we were driving right into it.

On the other side we popped out and an entirely new place had appeared before me!
