"One, two, three, one, two, three. Avery, please keep your eyes off the floor." Ms. Anastasia del Grevious, the Vampirics teacher, was giving the vamps and I a lesson in ballroom dance.
We had taken up the gym, once the sun had gone down for night classes. We were to pair up and then switch out partners throughout the song. A radio blared classical music as Ms. Anna attempted to lead us through the steps.
My partner let out a snakelike hiss. His face contorted in pain causing his teeth to flash.
"Owww! Yet again, you've stepped on my foot."
I mumbled out an apology. I was to busy trying to focus on my footwork. It wasn't fair. These old fossils have probably been taking this class for decades! While this is only my second day!
I see a pale hand tap the shoulder of my dance partner. It was the guy from before. The same person lead me to my vampire class on the first day.
"Valentine." I smiled. Valentine was absolutely gorgeous. And ethereal kind of good looks, that you can't even fathom. His hair was glossy black-blue that got bluer closer to the tips. It was wavy and wild. I would kill to touch just one strand.
His eyes were violet. A color I had never seen on a real person before but then again, until a little why I had never seen a fairy or werewolf before either. Compared to that this boy's bright violet eyes seemed pretty tamed.
He had sharp features, high cheekbones and a strong chin. Even the way his eyebrows were formed added to his handsomeness.
His face contorted with distaste,"Ugh, please don't call me Valentine. I hate my last name."
"Well then, what should I call you?" I asked sweetly.
He gave a half grin, seeming almost playful,"And why should I tell you?"
I sighed, mocked defeated,"Well, I suppose I could just give you a nickname. How does 'fanger' sound?"
He gave out a short laugh,"That sounds horrible! Very well, you got me, dear bunny. I shall give you my name,"He gave a low in formal bow,"My true name is Paris von Valentine, the fourth. Heir to the Valentine's estate and son of Greymare.
I curtsied just as low, pretending to lift my imaginary dress at the ends,"And I am Avery Grimsbane, the first. Heir of nothing and daughter of no one special. Charmed I'm sure."
With a laugh Paris straightened from his bow and held out his hand. A true smile glittering on his face, his unabashed fangs on full display.
"Might I have this dance, amusing bunny?"
I hesitated,"Are you sure you want to do that? My feet are lethal weapons. You might have better luck sticking your toes in a guillotine."
"Do not fret, bunny. You only need to follow my lead." He took my hand in his to pull me closer. High on my waist, I could feel the weight of his hand. He was cold, not as cold as Danny but still felt notably chilly.
I felt his gentle pressure as he began to lead me into a dance. His hand giving mine a squeeze to let me know we were turning or nudge my foot to let me know I was to move backwards. I never had to look down with Valentine's helpful gestures. I began to get more comfortable. Looking at his smiling face, I began to smile bright. We swept across the room in great strides, spinning as we went. He stopped only to dip me. I saw him from a different angle then. His black blue hair falling forward on his devilishly handsome face. When he lifted me upright, I hooked my fingers behind his head, a more prom night dance for sure but he didn't seem to mind. He had both his hands on my hips now, much lower.
"Will you remember this, mortal bunny?" He muttered
"I'm sorry. What, Paris?"
His violet eyes honed in on mine, sending an electric bolt into my stomach. My breathing hitched as he said," Won't you remember the me as I am. The Paris von Valentine who hated tea and preferred coffee, who never owned a pet but would have liked to have had a dog. The me that got dance with a very beautiful bunny this night?"
My smile dropped into a frown a as I stopped our dance. For a minute we just stood there holding each other,"Why do I have to remember? Are you leaving or something?"
He let out a long sigh and broke eye contact to look out into the distance,"Yes. I fear, I am leaving forever."
He was lying,"Where are you going?"
He smiled harshly and shrugged his shoulders," Only god knows where. So will you promise? Promise not to forget about me, so I may leave with no regrets."
I hesitated, those eyes of his seemed frantic and remorseful,"I...I won't forget. How could I forget the boy who taught me how to dance?"
