A tap at my window caused me to blink my crusted eyes open.
"Um, Aves, I think we have company...!"
I shot up, and looked over to the window, where the glow of the moon lit up a part of the room. And through the curtains was a figure. Moving close to the window, I reach for the curtain. I ripped the curtain back, to discover a figure holding the window frame. Danny let out a shrill shriek," Eeek! It's a ghost!"
I sighed at Danny's silliness. What was a literal phantom doing scared of ghost, "It's not a ghost, Danny. It's a friend of mine. What are you doing here, Valentine?"
Valentine held both sides of the window frame, grinning down at me impishly," Well, right now Im growing old outside your window. Won't you invite me in?"
"Sorry to break it to you but you're already old, V." I unlocked the window and he stepped through unto the room.
I raised a brow," Don't you need formal permission to come in?"
He let out 'pssh'," Get with the century, Madam. In this day in age, implied invitation is fine for me."
A gasp from across the room caught both their attentions. Danny had found one of my scarves and wrapped it around his head like an old russian grandma and put his hands on his face. In his best southern belle voice he wailed," Ms. Avery Silvane Grimsbane! What in heavens name are you thinking?! A man in your chambers in the middle of the night? Oh how the town will talk!!"
"Ah, I had forgotten you had the misfortune of getting the haunted dorm room." Paris said narrowing his eyes at the playful phantom.
"Misfortune?! I'm sorry I think the word you're looking for is gift!" Danny says throwing the scarf around his neck with attitude before floating up onto his back.
I give Paris' arm a soft punch,"Hey, what are you doing here, Valentine?"
"I felt so bad about putting you in such an awkward situation. I was hoping you'd allow me to repay the kindness you showed me yesterday by letting me take you out for a midnight snack."
"Snack...?" I instinctively gripped my wrist. The marks had long since vanished and yet I could still remember the feeling of his lips just there. He smiled, a smile that causes his fang to glint in the pale moonlight. A beautiful as a dream, he was a otherworldly as he was standin right in front of me.
"Please do not be scared," He said soothingly," Unlike last time, I'll be treating you. In other word you'll be the one eating."
"Y-yeah, okay...I'd like that."
Danny began to whine," But Aveyyyyyy, it's a school night! You wanna go prowling around with this night-walker?
"Don't worry, Danny" I said soothingly," We'll only be out for a little while."
"Yes, please don't fret, phantom. I shall see that Avery is well taken care of."
All the playful boyishness melted out of Danny until all that remained was the cold chill that emanated from his aura and vicious glare he pinned Paris with. Danny's feet were mere inches off the ground and hair fluttered hard with an non-existent wind," I certainly hope so, because if anything happens to my Avery, I'll show you the true meaning eternal damnation."
There was a tense moment before I sighed and threw on my cloak," Enough with the toxic masculinity please? I feel like I need to grow a beard now. Anyway, do I need to bring my broom?"
Paris broke his glaring competition with Danny to smile at me," I am much faster than your broom and if we want to make in back at an acceptable time for your controlling spectral roommate, I say it'd be best if I carried you...if you don't mind."
I smiled shyly, shaking my head," N-no I don't mind at all."
"Whatever, you two. But watch your hands, Mister. Anything you do to her, I'll do to you...and then some."
