The next day was Saturday, so no school. Usually during the weekends, kids went home to be with their families if they were on the island or they could stay in the dorm. However, the cafeteria wasn't open on the weekend.I wasn't sure what to do. Bee's cookies the night before was so good that she ate them all. I didn't think I would have to bring money, so going somewhere to buy something wasn't an option either.
I decided that maybe going to the front office might help. So I showered and changed and left the dorm that day. However I stopped short in my tracks when I saw a boy sitting on a flying broom directly my dorm window. It was Kaenix. I walked over to him and he gave me his signature smirk," Sup, dum dum?"
"You're the dummy, what are you doing here?"
"Came to pick you up?"
"Pick me up for what?"You don't have money right? I thought I'd take you for a tour around town. Buy you school supplies and take you out to eat. We can make a day of it."
I shook my head," I can't ask you to do that..."
"You're not asking and I'm not offering. This is the benefit of having friends that just so happen to come rich families. Now stop being combative and get on."
"Get on what?"
"What do you think? My broom. Have never ridden a flying broom before?"
I shook my head and he gave me a wicked grin.
"Well, baby, you're in for a wild ride! Hop on!"
I threw one of my leg over behind him. I was closer to the straw bristles, but I didn't feel stable when my feet didn't touch the ground.
"Wrap your arms around me."
"Okay. You smell nice." I blurted out, immediately wincing at my embarrassing outburst. He looked over his shoulder at me. I could tell he was smirking.
"Thanks... you do too. Now hold on tight. I'm about to take off." I took a deep breath just before we took off. Below me I could tell the ground was already far away, so I held on to him even tighter and even went as far as pressing my face into his broad back. There was no way I was going to look down. If I looked down I would scream. The wind flew past us. It whistled in my ears.
Kaenix let out a light chuckle, shouting over the wind he said," Look down, Avery!" I shook my head," I think I'm good thanks!"
"Just look." We were high above the trees, above the town, everything. It was beautiful! I saw shops. I could smell the nip in the air. I could feel it being just a little bit colder up here then anywhere down there. I craned my neck and saw sparkle coming out of the back of his broom. Is this what magic is? Is this what it feel like to have powers? I felt so at home up here, so at peace. I never wanted to go back down.
"It beautiful!" I yelled over the wind.
He nodded," I think so too! We're headed toward Mulcreek, it's a shopping area in town. We should be able to get whatever you want there."
We arched down. Quickly, falling out of the sky. It was very scary. I also screamed, but tried to gulp it down at least. Kaenix turned up at the very last second. Just before my feet hit the ground. I looked around stores side by side together. There was many people. Some my age and some adults walking around going from one shop and then crossing the street to go to another. Kaenix put his broom in something I could only describe as something akin to a bike rack. We started walking down the street on foot.
"Alright. So the basic things a witch would need is a wand, of course, some spell books, a broom and a cloak."
"Why do I need a cloak."
