A new land before me. Everything seemed different, the sounds, light, even the atmosphere felt odd and fresh. The birds whistled a new song. From what I could see out the bus front window, there was a lot of trees in front of us.
Slaine grabbed my stuff and nodded at me with a stoic expression that I was beginning to see as his default setting and walked off the bus. Ross chuckled," Welcome to your new home, Avery!" He gave me a gentle pat on the shoulder before exiting the bus as well. Now it was my turn. I let out a deep sigh. A new school. I wonder if I would like my new classmates. I imagined what the dorms looked like. I worried if I would have a roommate that was mean or annoying. Then I nodded to myself. No point in dragging it out I suppose. Let's go get some answer.
I got up from my seat. Eager to see what lie outside of the buses walls. When I stepped off the bus, Slaine and Ross were no where to be found but they had left my suitcase along side the vehicle. What the heck? They just left her here to fend for herself! I fumed, grabbing the handle of my pink suitcase, I looked around my new surroundings. The paved road stopped just there beneath the bus. Then all me were trees. Tall and darkly colored, the trees stood proud in thick group with little flower and mushrooms sprouting out here and there. I turned back to the bus to speak to the bus driver," Um, excuse me where do I..." The bus driver had disappeared as well. I stood alone in what appeared to be forest next to nothing but an empty bus. Great.
I groaned, well this is just great! I rolled my suitcase behind me as I wandered through the grass of the forest. Looking around, it was hard. Every tree looked almost the same. There was no path and nothing seemed different up ahead. I kept along in a single direction, hoping if all else failed I would still be able to find the bus. Tree branches and exposed roots everywhere, I tripped more than once.
Eventually, though, I did find a clearing. I race ahead to reach it but stopped short in my track when I saw two people already there. Two boys, one had light brown hair and the others was long and red. The brown haired boy was standing over the red-headed one. He was shirtless, a lean figure with good muscle tone, his abs glistened with sweat as he looked down at the other guy. Even from this far, I could hear him say while breathing hard," Kneel." A gruff and single word command and the red-head rushed to comply. Scrambling up into a kneeling position, both knees on the ground along with his hands, he muttered a quiet," Yes, alpha."
Grabbing a fist full of the red heads long hair, he swung a punch at him that made his collapse back into the position he was in before. Sprawled on the forest in the clearing, he looked bloody. Fear dragged the breath out of me. A breath I didn't realize I was holding. Intervening started seeing like a bad decision. I took a step back into the tree line. A tree branch broke under my foot and I winced at the loud sound. Immediately, the brunette lifted his head. My stomach dropped. Fresh fear flooded my system. Oddly familiar eyes, glinted into my direction. Eyes like molten gold...
I realized I was panting. Oh no, he's going to see me! I wheeled back, turning on heels and running as fast as I could. Rushing through the woods, I pumped my arms fast. My breath heaving out of me while I tried to avoid the exposed roots. I didn't care what direction, I was going. I just need to get away. I just needed to escape!
Suddenly BOOM! I crashed into someone! Falling back on my butt, I tried to scramble away. I raised my hand as a meek way of trying to protect me. A soft hand grabbed mine. I froze in fear lifting my eyes to see who my attacker was.
"Woah, are you okay?" A high pitched tinkling voice called above me. My eyes raised and saw a girl with long blonde hair and pink tips. She was very pretty with a frilly pink skirt and white blouse. But the most prevalent thing about her appearance was her white cat-like ears on top on her head and her white tail that swished nearly on the ground behind her. Her ears were perked up, she was pale with big purple eyes and a very clear complexion. She tugged at my hand to encourage me to stand.
"Y-yeah...I'm fine? Thanks." I said slowly, still looking at her up and down. She giggled, brushing me off to get the leaves off me.
She beamed a pretty smile at me," You must be new here, huh?" She was shorter then me, she wore her hair in two long ponytails, her pink tipped hair was nearly to her waist even put up like it was.
I nodded. "You have...your ears...they're!" I stuttered. She reached up to touch her ear. One of them drooped down as if to help her reach it. It was cute to look at.
"Hm? Yeah, what about them?" She raised an eye brow, looking up as if she would be able to see them.
"It just that...um, what are you?" She looked more confused for a second before maybe it clicked with her. She opened her mouth wide with a 'ohhhhhhhh'.
"I didn't know you were from the other world! I am were-fox, obviously"
This was my turn to be confused," The other world? I thought this was just an island."
She nodded," It is, that's just what we call it. The human world, y'know?"
I let out huh. Before deciding to let it go.
"I'm a bit lost, do you think you could show me the way to the school?"
"Yeah, of course! Just follow me." She grabbed my arm, linking with me to pull me along.
That's when I recalled something. "Um, I think there was two guys back there fighting." I threw my thumb in the direction I had run from.
She just nodded, not seeming shocked by the fact. "Yeah that happens a lot here. Boys will be boys, just let them duke it out. Give them an hour and they'll be laughing about it."
"Yeah, I guess."
"We're almost to the school. Hey, how did you get lost out here anyway?"
"The guys who came to get me just left me on an empty bus." The fox girl chuckled.
"Well, that's funny. They aren't supposed to do that. Usually, the kids get dropped off right of the school to get the nickel tour.""What is this school, anyway?"
She gave me a mischievous smile," Now, THAT will be explained on the tour. Oh hey, we are here!"
I looked up and was stunned to see a regal school in front of us. Three large building in a incomplete square stood proudly. The building looked rather new-styled. Not the castle she was expecting but maybe better? The were potted flowers everywhere and in the center of the square was a large fountain. A sign read ' SageMyth, school of magical education'.
"Okie dokie! We're here. I have to get to class, you should get to the front office to get your schedule and the key to your door room." I honestly a little worried to be on my own again, but I just gave a brave nod.
"Okay, thank you so much..."
"Bee Zoebelle, and you?"
"Avery Grimsbane." She pulled me into a hug. Pressing her soft, cold cheek to mine. When she pulled away, she shined another smile at me.
"Nice to meet 'cha! Hope to see 'ya in the dorms later. Bye, Avery!" She waved before skipping away.
"Later, Bee!" I called after her. When she was out of view I turned my attention back to the school. No point in leaving them waiting. I grabbed the handle of my suitcase and dragged it along behind me.
