With a tight grip on my wrist, Creed walked up to the teacher.
Mr. Claude nodded his head. A solemn look on his face, he said,"Give the order, Alpha."Creed sighed heavily and released my arm to turn to the students behinds us. There our peer stood eagerly with baited breath as they waited for Creed to say something.
His gaze slid off of the group and in a low voice that I, who was standing right next to him, found it hard to hear said," Shift."
Then like the crack of thunder, a rumbling noise echoed off the trees. All around me, teens twisted and contorted. Creed face was calm, blissed out even as his body morphed into...something else. His muscle tensed and released under his skin. His eyes looking far away as his jaw ticked. The loud sound of bones snapping rung out as his moved by their selves to form a whole new shape. His face changed and grew longer. His back hunching over and dark black fur sprouting everywhere. He went to all fours on the grass and then it was over.
In Creed's place was a giant wolf. It towered over me as tall as a horse. It fur was black and shiny, almost blue even. His bright golden eyes shining like stars in the darkness. I felt a sharp fear crawl up my spine and took an unconsious step back. He stood tall and noble. His black fur catching the light at such an angle that made him look majestic. He stood and stared at me for a moment and I stared right back into his blank eyes. Then he turned away from me and knelt his stomach almost to the grass. When I didn't move he turned around to glare at me. Even in wolf form I could tell he was saying 'hurry up'.
I scrambled into motion. Trying not to kick him in the ribs as I swung my leg over his back. The second I was on top of him, I took a grip on the fur near his neck. Astonished by how soft and fluffy it was. Immediately I was obsessed with it and tried not to make it obvious as I rubbed my hands deeper into the softeness. He stood quickly making me gasp when I suddenly couldn't feel the ground under my feet. I gripped his fur even tighter and pressed my chest to his back to get a better balance. In fear, I squeezed my eyes shut tightly, scared that if I looked down I would fall.
I got even more scared when I felt Creed's muscles move under me. He moved his great head to look behind himself. He let out a bark that echoed in my ear and a cacaphony of howls followed in answer. Suddenly large wolves of varying colors blurred past us with incredibly speed. The other wolves in our class tearing off into the woods on all fours. While Creed stood still and allowed everyone to pass him. Once everyone disappeared into the trees, I wondered why Creed hadn't gone as well. Maybe Alpha don't run with the pack? For a moment, I played with Creed's mane. Letting it move between my fingers. When I glanced down though I saw he was looking at me. His eyes look inquisitive. I grabbed on a big amout of his and squeezed my legs to his sides. With a shaky voice I said," I...I'm ready.."
Without further ado he took off. His paws making a gentle and quick sound against the ground as he tore up dirt behind him. His legs were almost invisible as he fleeted around trees and bushes effortlessly. Though the others in the pack were so fast and had such a big head start, Creed was much faster and made it to the front of the pack to run in front of everyone. We formed a V shape. With Creed at the front leading the pack through the forest. Two wolves were almost at our sides a sandy wolf with their tongue lolling their tongue out of their mouth. Another one yapping every now and again. They were having fun.
I sat straighter astride Creed and let the wind hit me and whip my hair behind me. It was exhilirihating! I got to watch as the trees zoomed pass all around me. And eventually my fear melted away. I began to trust that Creed would not crash. I let out a giggle and loosened my grip on his fear not realizing how tired my fingers were. Creed leaped over an exposed root and for a moment while we flew through the air I let go of his mane completely and threw my hands up," WooHoo!" I cried out. I felt like I was flying. This was more fun than any rollercoaster, than any high! A girl could get used to this.
I could feel Creed's body move under me. His firm back arching with every other step. His muscles working to propell us forward. Behind us a well formed V following after. I pressed my chest to his back, grabbing hold of his fur again. Leaning up to his ear I whispered one word," Faster."
It took no more than that. With a burst, he pushed even harder and moved even faster. Leaving the pack in the dust. He ran so fast, I had to pressed my face against his fur. The wind that had once been exhilirating was now like knives. And despite our closeness, I didn't even hear Creed pant! Eventually, I relented and let go of my death grip on his fur to pat his neck. Letting his know I had had enough. He slowed to what felt sort of like a horse's canter.
We were going up a hill. At the top was more of a cliff though. Below was just a deep hole. Close to edge of the cliff. Creed crouched down low enough for me to dangle my foot and jump down. A second later the other wolves had caught up and came running up the hill. Once they realized that Alpha had stopped some had collapsed. Just falling over onto their sides, huffing with adorable doggy smiles. Creed walked past me to move to the very edge of the cliff. He threw his head back and let out an animalistic howl. Without a pause the other's in the pack began to howl as well. A howling chorus that rung throughout the open space. It was like something out of a storybook.
