"You're not taking her anywhere, Kookie." Namjoon's voice was freezing, but still eased the knot in my stomach. Hoseok hurried over, prying me from Jungkook's grip to put me on the ground. I wanted to thank him, but when I tried to speak, all that came out was a low hiss.
"Jungkook, you didn't..." Hoseok looked concerned. "Open your mouth." I did as he wanted, and he only had to throw one quick look down my throat. "It's dark." Then he looked at Namjoon, who was staring at Jungkook with an expression that scared me. "That was out of line, Jungkook."
He shrugged. "She was loud, hyung."
A collective sigh came from each of the boys. I threw a quick look toward the bottom of the stairs.
Could I make a run for it?
Maybe get to a neighbor?
Yoongi noticed it, and placed a hand on my shoulder, looking at me like 'Really?' I looked away, wanting to say I hadn't been considering anything, but there was no point.
"Alright." Taehyung cleared his throat. Everyone looked to him, including me. "So, uh... I don't know about you, but I don't think keeping her in the house is an option. Yeah, yeah, she's a huntress and all, but she's eighteen. What about this; we let her go home-"
"What?!" Jungkook exclaimed, collectedness gone.
"-but we someone stays with her. We could get a problem with her father, and I'm not about to commit murder and move again. We get her back here tomorrow, and then we figure something out. It's late, and parents in this decade are really protective."
I looked at him. Again? Commit murder again?
It seemed like everyone agreed -except for Jungkook- and I became a little angry. I didn't want anybody to come remotely close to my father, except maybe Hoseok, and I definitely didn't want any of them in my home.
As they started to argue about who would go through the torture of being in a huntress' home, I tried to get their attention. It didn't work until I patted Namjoon's shoulder. As he spoke, I noticed his dimples. Cute, I thought, before remembering that he was a vampire. Not so cute.
"What?" he asked, and they all looked at me. I realised I hadn't really thought this through, as I didn't know how to speak, but Jin raised a finger. "Hold on! I have an idea." He unlocked his phone and handed it to me.
I opened a notepad-like app, beginning to type quickly. After handing it back to Jin, he read my words aloud. "Has it ever occurred to anyone that I really don't want to go around hunting vampires? I'm not going to kill anyone. Can't you just let me go?"
Taehyung sighed. "You have a point, but we don't have any guarantee that you'll actually keep your promise." I wanted to laugh. Did I look like I knew how to kill vampires?
Involuntarily, I wondered if this had happened to mom too. If she'd been locked in a bathroom by vampires, and been told all of this. I still thought there might be a chance that they were wrong, because honestly; how could I be anything but a normal human? Other things didn't exist in my world before tonight.
I took the phone back, typing a very simple message. "How can I make you trust me?" I couldn't believe I was asking anything like that, but desperate times called for desperate solutions.
Jungkook smiled at hearing Jin read that. His smile had an odd effect on his face; either making it scary or kind depending on what the context was. I wanted to run when I saw it, but there wasn't anything I couldn't do but listen to what he had to say.
"You can give us your blood," Jungkook said, smile turning into a confident smirk. I was hesitant. Of course I was. I didn't know what they'd need my blood for, but I could only imagine a voodoo doll or something even worse.
