I was woken up by the argument of Kris and Duke. They obviously did not like each other. It was such a beautiful day, too. Not a single cloud in the sky. Why couldn't they just argue some other time, when it's NOT sunny.
"Will you both shut up?" I shouted. My voice wasn't as clear as it is when I'm fully awake. It was early in the morning. Well, on this planet. I had no clue what time it really was, or how long I slept.
Kris and Duke tore their glare from each other, and pasted it to my face.
"No, you know why? This kid is a little brat! I cannot stand him. I cannot believe this kid is your brother!" Duke complained. He was a pain, I admit, but he was my brother. What do you expect of boys?
"Says the one who talked to us drunk. I don't think you even realize how much of a threat you seem to us right now!" Kris argued right back. Now, they both glared at each other. Again. It seemed like something I didn't want to mess with.
I felt a tap on my shoulder. Anne? What did she want? Anne jerked her head to the left, signalling me to stand, and go for a walk with her. Or, at least I think so. I stand up, and instantly felt dizzy and light-headed. I had obviously slept for a long, long time. Then, I followed her in the group of trees, a little ways-away from the campfire.
"They haven't stopped yelling at each other since last night. It was all because of Alex. Now, I can't shut them up, and they're being annoying. Do something, Violet!" She whispered loudly to me. I knew I had to do something about their arguing. We can't progress any further with their anger still lingering about, but how can I stop it?
( "Shut up, kid! You are lucky that I am ever helping you on your stupid quest!" )
( "I don't need help from you. I am smart enough on my own!" )
"I-" Turning my head, I noticed Duke resisting the urdge to slap Kris right across the face. Which, I probably wouldn't mind at the moment. "I can try... But, I can't guarantee that it'll stop? Once Kris hates or even dislikes something, he will insult until that thing he hates is gone-"
"VIOLET! Just.. Come on, look at Bry, she's upset too. Don't let us down. I mean, honestly, what are we going to do? The least you could do is look after the people in your party," Anne said, a little irritated. This is why I hate being a sister.
"Fine, I'll try! Are you happy?" I rolled my eyes, and stormed towards Kris and Duke. Abruptly stopping, then yelled: "Will you both shut up?" I screamed, "We can't go any farther in our stupid quest if you two can't get along!"
I could hear Bry crying. She wasn't the only one upset.
"... Now, pack up your things, and let's get going. I don't want to be rained on today!" I pointed towards the sky. Which, was covered in dark grey clouds. Maybe it was a thunder storm... Wait, it was sunny just less than six minutes ago? Something obviously wasn't right.
"Wait- something isn't right here..." I said, cautiously. Who could control the weather? None other than the Masked Lord himself. He was near. If we didn't get going soon, he would probably find us, kill us, and who knows what else... Maybe enslave the entire universe?
"Let's get moving!" Anne said through the silence. We all moved as if she were in charge.
I grabbed my cloak, and made sure it was around my neck. It wasn't choking me, surprisingly. I've never worn a cloak, so I'd never know if it would or not. Kris also put his cloak on. It started to rain, so we both put our hoods up. As did the rest of the party. We all looked shadey.
"He's near.. We must hurry!" Anne signalled us to move forward. So we did.
The sky cried, lightning echoed, the ground was slippery. It was harsh on us; we could barely see a foot in front of us. Kris turned to Anne, waiting. Waiting for an order, or something.. I think I was too. Where were we to go? We knew he was near, but we didn't know where.
That's when I saw a flash of blue fire. An Anicept was near. This couldn't be an ambush, right? We just woke up.
My instincts forced me forwards. Kris, Bry, Duke, and Anne followed. If any had to lead, it would be me. I kept going fowards. Up a hill. There weren't any roads, houses, or rivers. Just a hill. I could see the mountains in the far distance. Maybe that's where Duke wanted us to head for? I was tired, and I didn't feel like moving anymore. My muscles ached from climbing the hill, and I fell more than once, but we knew that the Masked Lord was near, but why hasn't he killed us? Why are we still alive? It couldn't be that one Anicept creating this weather, could it? The rain grew heavier, and soon, too heavy to even see an inch in front of me. It hurt every time a rain drop fell on my head. My skin hurt from the rain pounding itself on me. I knew the rest of us hurt, as well. Where was shelter? There must be one near by. My head turned to my right. The biggest tree, barely a drop on the ground. Maybe we could just rest there until we reach the mountains? I started moving my aching legs towards the tree. I sat down near the trunk of the tree, and so did the rest.
"This is your fault, Kris. I bet it was because you used your ability!" Duke exclaimed while he sat the farthest away from Kris and I. Bry sat close to Kris, just as I predicted.
"I didn't mean to! Besides, I don't think they can "sense" my powers when I use 'em. Besides, it probably was JUST a coincidence!" Kris argued back, a little red in the face. Embarrassment, or anger?
"Wait, wait, wait, WAIT! Kris, you used your powers?" Anne butted in the argumet now. Bry and I both just listened.
They had to yell back and forth, just to overpower the audio of the rain.
"I-I don't know? How am I supposed to know?" Kris yelled back, but not as confidently as before. His eyes were glowing.
Just like mine.
He was near, wasn't he? He didn't want to kill us, I know that. We would've been dead, long before, but I think I know why...
He wanted to take Kris's power because he's beginning to learn how to use it.
