Maybe I did use my powers, so what? Stopping the flames in their place isn't special, is it? It might have been a hallucination of some sort. Yeah, that's what it is. Isn't it?
"I-I didn't mean too, all right?" I shouted over the rain, which grew heavier. "I just looked at the fire, and it stopped moving. I didn't even notice. It lasted five seconds, not a big deal!"
"Kris.. That's amazing!" Anne smiled at me with her perfect teeth.
"No... It-it isn't,-" a crack broke my sentence in half. A loud crack. A tree began falling over on my right. It eventually tipped all the way, and blocked us from Anne, Duke, and Bry. Shock spread on their face, moving their lips, but words wouldn't reach me.
That's when I felt what they were talking about. Violet screamed as something hit the earth, but what? I turned around swiftly, and saw what I thought was impossible. A giant. His clothes were tattered, basically just scraps of clothing. He smelled like rotting flesh. A revolting smell. I instantly knew what I had to do. Run. "Violet, can you hear me?" I called out for her. I could barely see her figure that was only twenty inches away. I could tell she was in panic mode, though.
"Yes, but-Kris, watch out!"
Bry, who was standing next to me, grabbed my wrist, and pulled me out of the way. A hammer smashed into the ground. Sending chunks of dirt, mud, and bark flying in all directions, especially mine. Or, I thought so. For a split second, all the rubble froze in it's spot. Then, BOOM, it fell on the ground. My heart felt like it was going to explode because of how fast it was beating. A giant is trying to kill me. I thought to myself. A giant is trying to kill me! Move, Kris, move! I kept telling myself, but my legs were locked in place. I could hear Bry crying out my name, begging for me to move, but I was petrified.
"Kris, just go!" Bry shoved me down the hill, and followed right behind.
I felt my feet slip from under me, and then, I started sliding down the hill on my stomach. Like a penguin. At first, I thought I was pretty awesome. Until I realized I left Violet all on her own.
