Confessing

Kate's POV
"Do you want to go there?" Asked Leo pointing to a beach side cafe that he knew was one of my favorites. I nodded and we sat down on a bench outside the cafe with Roxie beside us.

"So uh how are you today?" Leo stuttered trying to breaking the awkward silence that had lingered since we left the house.

"I'm ok" I responded truthfully, "Ned texted me earlier and he wants me at his solicitors office on Wednesday to sign divorce papers."

"Are you ok with the arrangement?" he Asked "Ya it was mutual really, things weren't working out between us as it was before he went off to London" I answered "we kept picking fights at each other and I hated the kids having to see that happening, I think it's for the best."

"How's your love life going?" I joked not really expecting a serious answer "no one at the moment" Leo answered "I have really been thinking of settling down lately, you know maybe something more long term now that I'm getting older".

For some strange reason I felt that was directed at me, worst of all it felt right, even though it probably shouldn't have, Leo was my best friend.

"And who do you have in mind" I said jokingly "actually Kate" he said as he took my hands, "I haven't been able to say this before and I am scared to say it as I'm afraid it will mess up our friendship, but, I, I'm in love with you Kate, and I have been, for the past twenty years and you have no idea how much it hurts me to see those men tear you apart.

"Oh" is all that came out of my mouth, partly shocked and also touched by his words

"I don't know why it took me so long to say this, it's just I didn't want to ruin our friendship. Please just say what you feel and I'm sorry if you don't feel the same way and I promise you we can just go on being friends and just remember that whatever happens between us I will always love you.

By now tears were falling down my cheeks, I leaned forward and flung my arms around Leo, "I feel the same way Leo" I replied "I love you"
