Kopa used the night as a cover to get himself closer to Pride Rock. He made great distance, now stopping to take a rest in a dense clump of bushes. He was so close he could see the path leading up to the caverns inside. This was it. He was here. He was where he once called home.... The lion cub expected to take a step forward but found himself stuck. What was wrong? He was here.
Don't tell me that you came all this way just to turn tail now, Kopa scolded himself. But still he wouldn't move.
He didn't understand. Pride Rock was there. Right there. What's the problem?
"I don't get it", Kopa muttered to himself.
Oh you'll understand soon, child; a voice rung in Kopa's head. It was vaguely familiar. Kopa's fur bristled and his blood ran cold. Had he been discovered. Daring to look through the foliage---there was nobody out there.
"Who---"
Are you trying to look for me? I apologize but there's no point in that, the voice purred in his ear, making the lion cub shudder.
"What are you like a ghost or something?", Kopa scoffed, but his heart was pounding. This voice was whisper directly in his ear. He could hear it and even slightly feel it.
Not a ghost, young cub. But I am here to---guide you. Believe it or not I am one of your...ancestors. I see you are having doubts, the voice seemed to ask.
"Um, yeah. I wanna go back....But it's been I don't really know how long. I can't even remember my own name, let alone things about home. What if? What if it isn't how I remember -- or how I think I remember it?"
Oh? And what do you mean, young one?, the voice seemed to be even closer to his ear. It was in peaked interest that this cub was almost a blank slate. Not remembering his place of birth or even his own name.
"Well...", Kopa took a deep breath and sat down. "At first all I wanted to do was get home. But... Well I spent some time in the Outlands. And things are really bad there. I hear it was my Dad's fault. That he is a villain. Do you think that's true?"
Hmmm... Forgive me but I don't think that's a question I can answer, the spirit, Scar, decided it was better to hold his tongue on his thoughts of Simba. It was all part of his bigger plan to push this in the right direction. But the situation in the Outlands are....an unintended consequence.
"Hmmm, I guess. But...."
Young cub, let me give you a word of advice to you. I suggest you find a place to sleep and think about this. A good nights sleep will clear your mind and allow you to come to a decision.
Kopa nodded and yawned. It was very late and there was no point in just standing in front of Pride Rock. He let out a deep sigh and began to wander a away from the Rock. He needed to find a place close but where he would not be seen.
