Beca would march over to her Dad who was cutting up a plank of wood in the front yard. "Why didn't you tell me Dad?", she'd stop in front of him watching him stop and look up at her now. "Why didn't you tell me about Alex?", she'd ask again.
"I did tell you", he'd walk away now putting the saw down before turning round to face his daughter, looking confused.
"When?", she'd get annoyed now. "What do you mean? We haven't spoken once since I left!", she'd hold her arms out wide as she'd try and find some answers.
"Yeah I know", he'd nod his head a little. "I went to your first concert in uh.. Seattle", he'd continue to watch her. "You wouldn't return any of my calls so I had to track you down like some kind of fan, to find out where you was performing", he'd grab a hand towel from the bench to wipe his hands.
"You-You was at that show?"
"Yup. I even went backstage to see you afterwards. I had to beg to one of the security fellas to let me in to see my own daughter", he'd start to clear up his stuff now, standing up as he'd cross his arms. "And there you were. You was so out of your mind on God knows what. I honestly thought I was in the wrong room because I didn't recognise the person I was seeing", he'd watch Beca rub her hands down her face as she'd try to remember. "And even after that I still tried to tell you about Alex. How you had this amazing little boy on the way"
"I-I don't remember any of that", she'd watch him walk towards the house now, following him slowly.
"You don't? Well, why don't I refresh your memory for you?", Brian would reach the top of the steps leading into the house where he'd then turn around to look down at her. "You told me to leave and never to come back, although you used more imaginative language", he'd roll his eyes. "I couldn't force you to come home with me Beca, so what was I supposed to do", he'd shrug his shoulders.
"I was uhm.. I was really messed up back then Dad", Beca would rub the back of her neck, feeling guilty.
"Yeah well it doesn't look like you have everything sorted out right now either", Brain would go to walk back inside but would stop as he'd open the door. "I just don't get it Beca. You was an amazing daughter, you was good at school, had a great group of friends and you was so in love with Chloe", he'd shake his head slowly, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion. "What happened Beca?"
Beca would shrug her shoulders, shaking her head as she'd glance at the floor, "I don't know", she'd look back up at him to see her Dad with a face of disappointment.
"Well the person I saw in Seattle that night, that's when I knew that Chloe and Alex was just better off without her. So yeah, shame on me for not telling you", he'd then walk inside leaving Beca alone.
...
That afternoon, Beca would walk up the steps of her Dad's church hearing him start his service. As she'd reach the top of the stairs seeing everyone inside she'd turn around to leave. She'd think back to her conversation with her Dad earlier on, sitting down on the steps as she'd listen to the rest of his service.
"We have gone through a lot in our little town in the last couple of weeks", Brian would be stood at the front of the church. "And it's made me think about mercy but also forgiveness, and it is said in..."
Chloe would listen to Brian as he'd explain the importance of forgiveness, thinking about Beca. She'd glance at Stacie next to her, who was nodding her head and wiping a tear from her cheek as she was no doubt thinking about Luke's accident.
At the end of service Beca would stand up again from where she was sat on the steps, looking inside to see people start to leave. She'd walk down the steps, wanting to leave before anyone could speak to her, but would stop as her Dad would call her name.
