“What do you want with me?!” I gasped.
.
“Only to talk to you.” Nightshroad shrugged, finally letting go of my neck. I rolled away, towards where Steven and Toby stood.
.
“Why on Earth would I want to talk to you?!” I screamed.
.
“Currently, you don’t have a choice.” Nightshroad replied. I looked around to notice that everyone except Nightshroad and me had stopped moving. They were completely still, like statues.
.
“What have you done to them?” I muttered.
.
“Frozen their minds temporarily. They cannot see, hear, or move. When they wake up, they will not remember anything of my presence here.”
.
Nightshroad, seemingly uninterested in this topic, suddenly turned his gave away from the lifeless statues around him. Through his mask, I could see two pure black eyes. Empty eyes. Ones that had witnessed despair. Eyes that were fuelled by anger and the need for revenge. Just who the heck was this guy?
.
“I’m sure you’re aware of the Hero of Legend story, Sam.” Nightshroad began. “One thousand years ago, a man named Madara walked this Earth. He was one of the most powerful men to ever live. There was only one man who could ever beat him.”
.
“Izuna…” I muttered.
.
“Correct. Did you know that Izuna and Madara once used to be great friends? Madara and Izuna’s father were responsible for the founding of much of this world’s regions. They ruled side-by-side for many years, uniting even the foreign lands of Orre and Unova. But...this was not enough for Madara. He was a man who was born for power, and ruling alongside Izuna’s father would not gain him that. He wanted the lands to himself. And so, one night, Madara executed Izuna’s father, unknowing that Izuna himself had seen this. Angry at his former friend, Izuna fought Madara. The two men battled for many days, until eventually Izuna beat Madara and banished him from their homeland. Fuelled by anger, Madara sought out an item that could grant him the power to defeat Izuna, and anyone else that stood in his way. He sought out the power of the heavens itself – the Goddess Orb.”
.
Nightshroad continued. “Of course, as told in the Hero of the Legend story, this proved unsuccessful. Madara found the Orb, but was unable to use it. The Orb found its way to Izuna, and used its power to seal Madara away forever. What many people do not know, however, is that Madara implanted a tiny bit of his very being – his soul – into the Goddess Orb before it disappeared from his hand. He knew that, without the Goddess Orb, he would quite possibly be defeated by Izuna once more. It was a safeguard. All part of a master plan.”
.
“You mean…Madara set the whole thing up?!” I gasped.
.
Nightshroad chuckled. “You catch on pretty quickly, Sam. Madara has waited over 1000 years for his plan to finally begin. What you perhaps do not know about the Goddess Orb is that, after Madara’s sealing by the Legendary Pokémon, the Goddess herself split the Orb into two.”
.
“No…you can’t mean that…” I stuttered.
.
“The Light Orb and the Dark Orb are those two parts. When brought together, they can recreate the Goddess Orb! And I plan to use the Goddess Orb to revive Madara back to this world!”
.
The words hit me like a brick. The man in front of me was planning to revive the greatest threat this world has ever seen. Kanto wouldn’t stand a chance of surviving his onslaught…
.
“I…won’t let you do this.” My words came out in a vague whisper.
.
“I’m afraid this is actually where our chat comes to an end, Sam.” Nightshroad said to me. “You may not know this, but me and you also play a part in this. While I am the descendent of Madara as told in the Hero of Legend, you are descendent of Izuna. The prophecy in the Hero of Legend states that me and you will battle, similar to how Madara and Izuna did one thousand years ago. I simply can’t let you live for that to come true.”
.
“If I really am the Boy from the prophecy you speak of…I’ll stop you no matter what.”
.
“I find that unlikely.”
.
With this said, Nightshroad unfroze the minds of everyone around us. Toby and Steven wheeled back in confusion as they tried to recall what had happened.
.
“Now, let’s have your friends watch you as I send you to your death. A lesson that no-one stands in my way! Goodbye, Sam.”
.
Without realizing, and within the blink of an eye, a dark beam suddenly shot towards me. Having no time to dodge it, I was hit square on and sent hurtling off the side of Team Galactic’s base, tumbling down to the ground far below. Before I lost consciousness, I could hear Steven and Toby’s desperate cries as they watched me fall. Was this the…end?
.
That was my last thought.
