“Welcome to the 16th Annual Graduation Exams!” The announcer shouted loudly into his microphone, as parents, former students and news reporters alike gathered into the stadium.

I laughed as I watched thousands of fans gather into the stadium stands. Headmaster Rowan really knew how to make a spectacle out of these events!

“Today, ladies and gentleman, is a real treat for you all!  These 50 students, all dreaming of eventually reaching the Elite 4, will face one final test here at the Academy in the form of a knock-out tournament! Only one trainer will win!” The announcer remarked.

“Also joining us today are two very special guests! Joining us from the Pokémon League Elite 4 is none other than the ghost type queen – Ayshe, and the grass type king, Skyra! Let’s give them a round of applause, everyone!”

A loud ripple of the applause erupted from the crowd as two figures stepped forward and bowed.

“So this is one of the perks of being an Elite 4 member? I could get used to this.” Skyra said quietly to Ayshe next to him, smiling cheekily.

“You were only made an Elite 4 member recently, so trust me when I say that this is only one of the great events we get to attend!” Ayshe replied, winking.

I turned away from the Elite 4 members to notice Headmaster Rowan walking towards us.

“Now, students. Though this may be an event, remember that you still get graded on your performance today. I wish you all the best of luck, and let the best trainer win!” Rowan said loudly, raising his voice so that he could be heard over the crowds mutters. He then turned towards the announcer and nodded. The announcer nodded back, prompting Headmaster Rowan to walk towards the staircase leading up the stadium seats.

“Ladies and gentleman, it’s time! Headmaster Rowan has signaled to me that we can finally start the show! Before that, however, we need to tell the Academy students who they will be battling!” The announcer shouted into his microphone.

An image was then projected high onto the wall behind the announcer, listing all of the 25 battles that were about to take place. I looked up to find my opponent to be the sports-star of the Academy; Owen O’Connor.

“We will now randomize the battles to decide which battle will be first!” The announcer said, turning to face the projected image. “And it looks like it will be…Toby Grazier versus Lyra Davies!”

“Haha, first right away! Let’s do this!” Toby confidently replied, getting his Poke Ball ready. I smiled and wished him luck, before heading to the staircase. Lyra was no pushover – this would definitely be a tough fight for Toby.

“When you are ready…” The referee overlooking the matches today started saying. “…you may begin.”

“Come on out, Treecko!” Toby shouted, throwing his Poké Ball into the air. The Poke ball opened and in a whirl of light, Treeko appeared.

“A Treecko, huh? No problem! Let’s do this, Medicham!”

Lyra hurled her own Poké Ball into the air, again causing it to open and shoot out a whirl of light, which allowed Medicham to appear.

“A Medicham…No problem! Let’s end this quickly, Treecko! Use Energy Ball!”

Suddenly, Treecko started running towards Medicham, creating a large green sphere of energy in its mouth. Just as it neared Medicham, Treeko jumped up into the air and fired the large ball of green energy at its opponent. Medicham quickly jumped backwards, however, causing the green energy ball to collide into the ground.
