“Signal Beam!”
“Flamethrower!”
“Shadow Ball!”
“Seed Bomb!”
The four attacks collided against each other simultaneously with the force of a meteor crashing into the earth. The explosion that followed was ear-piercing, but it did not concern the three young Trainers battling against Team Galactic.
“Why don’t you stupid kids just give up?!” Commander Mercury shouted, wiping away dust from her eyes.
Toby Grazier ignored the Commander, and instead told his Grovyle to use Leaf Blade on Tentacruel. Despite the impressive speed of Toby’s newly evolved starter Pokémon, the enemy Tentacruel dodged the attack and returned to Commander Jupiter’s side. Little did she realise that Sarah Taylor’s Starmie had suddenly appeared behind, and Tentacruel was hit by a powerful Thunderbolt. Steven Flynn, meanwhile, had moved away from the Yanmega he was previously fighting to attack Commander Saturn’s Hydreigon with his Gengar. The Ghost Pokémon flew high into the air and generated two Shadow Ball’s simultaneously in its hands, which were then both thrown at Hydreigon. The huge Dragon was hit square on, yet did not flinch in pain.
“Just how much does it take to beat these guys?!” Steven exclaimed, returning to stand next to Toby. Sarah similarly did the same.
“We need to keep them distracted. If we lose, Sam will be overwhelmed, and would lose the fight to protect Kanto!” Toby replied fiercely, locking eyes with Commander Saturn who had jumped up onto a tree truck that the other Commanders were standing on.
Sarah sighed. “But how can we beat them? They’re far stronger than us! We can’t land a single hit…”
“Would Sam give up?! No!” Toby yelled. “Whatever the odds, Sam would never, ever, give up! He’d keep fighting until the very end. Even now, he’s risking his life to face perhaps the strongest man on the planet. So let’s show Sam that we’ll risk everything to help him out! We can beat these guys!”
“Don’t fool yourself.” Commander Saturn sneered. “You can’t beat us. Nothing can stop Team Galactic!”
“Oh yeah? I’ll prove you’re wrong!” Toby shouted. He ran forward, with both his Grovyle and Victini following.
“Toby, wait!” Sarah exclaimed.
“No! I’ll take these guys down myself if I must!” Toby replied, still running.
“If you wanted to die that easily, you could have just told me.” Saturn smiled evilly. “Hydreigon, end his life!”
Hydreigon flew down, and released a Hyper Beam straight at where Toby was running. If Steven had not pulled him back, Toby Grazier would be dead.
“I’m sorry, Toby. You were right – we can beat these guys.” Steven muttered, letting go of Toby’s shirt. “That’s why I need you to stand back. This could get ugly.”
Toby stood back, running next to a worried Sarah as Steven walked forwards.
“You know, Saturn, I grew up alone.” Saturn muttered as he walked towards the Commanders. “My Brother died a long time ago on a journey, and to escape the grief, my Parents left the house without me. They simply couldn’t look at me without being reminded of my Brother.”
Everyone was silent, with Steven’s voice being the only sound. The air was tense as he continued.
“But, before they left, my Mum and Dad told me that my Brother had left a gift in my name. So, on that day, I searched the house that I was born in until I stumbled across a box with my name printed on it. Inside the box was a single gold Poké Ball. I have carried that item around with my all my life, treasuring it with my life.
