Could it really be Sarah? The last time I saw her was when she went off on her own journey with her sister, Olivia.
I smiled.
It was hard to forget the last moment we had spent together. The hug…the sunset…a moment that seemed to last hours…
I was just about to run after Sarah when Aaron grabbed my shoulder and stopped me.
“You don’t need any more distractions, Sam. We have a job to do!”
“Don’t I deserve a bit of a break after beating Gavin?” I asked, groaning.
“Oh, sure. You can have all the breaks you want when Nightshroad and Madara have destroyed the world.” Aaron sarcastically replied.
“Look, Aaron,” I began. “I know how you feel. But currently, we’re ahead of schedule. After today, we’ll head to Vermillion City where I’ll defeat the Gym Leader. And if Nightshroad pops his head up from the shadows, we’ll be ready to strike. But that girl...I haven’t seen her since the Academy. Please just let me have one day with her!”
Aaron stared at me for a moments, and then sighed. “Fine! Have your “break”. I need to prepare for our trip to Vermillion City, anyway.
I grinned, and thanked Aaron. Sarah was just about to walk past the Gym when I reached her.
“Sarah!” I waved.
She turned around, wondering who had called for her. Her eyes then widened in shock, before grinning. “Sam! I haven’t seen you in ages!”
We exchanged a quick hug when we finally caught up to each other. Why did each and every hug seem to last for hours? Love is indeed a weird and magical thing, I decided.
“What are you doing in Cerulean City?” I asked, finally breaking off the hug.
“Actually, I was just about to leave it.” She sadly replied. “I just need to head to Pallet Town, and then I’m leaving for Hoenn.”
“You’re…leaving?!” The words hit me hard. If she left for Hoenn…I might never see her again.
She nodded. “Olivia and my parents forced me to go. Olivia wants to travel around there to collect the Gym Badges of the respective Gyms. I didn’t really get a say in it…”
I silently cursed. Sarah was leaving, and I couldn’t do anything to stop it. All I had was today with her. I knew what I wanted to say to her, and today was my only opportunity.
I looked up at her and smiled. “Listen, how about we talk on the top of Cerulean Hill? It’s probably better than standing around here.”
She looked down at her watch, and then grinned. “I guess I could make room in my busy schedule for that.” She winked.
I smiled, and we both started the walk to Cerulean Hill. Elsewhere, Aaron was sat on a rock watching this.
“Love, huh?” He smiled, and then looked up at the sky. “Hannah…I hope you’re watching this. It reminds me of the times we had together. I think we even went to Cerulean Hill, didn’t we? You were always better at remembering these things than I was.”
He chuckled. “If you’re watching them…I promise I’ll protect those two. I won’t let what happened to you happen to them. Fate tore you from me, but I have the feeling that those two will be together for a very long time.”
“Watching them reminds me of something I haven’t said to you in a while.” Aaron continued. “Wherever you are up there, Hannah, remember that I love you…”
