“Leaf Storm!!”

“Dodge it, Drapion!”

The command was too late. Treeko’s Leaf Storm smashed into Drapion, sending the latter flying into a nearby tree. The purple Pokémon was instantly knocked out upon collision, giving Toby the win.

“Ugh, congratulations. Here, take these Berries I found on my journey.” Lewis, a local Pokémon Trainer, begrudgingly handed over.

“Thanks!” Toby beamed back, looking at his newly acquired Sitrus Berries.

Ever since our journey began two days ago, me and Toby had been battling Trainers from all across the world. News of Pewter City’s Gym Leader, Lydia Wiles, flawless win against five Trainers at once had shaken us a bit, prompting us to train non-stop until we felt we were ready to defeat her. With ten consecutive wins against trainers on Route 1, we were both beginning to feel confident of a win against the tough Gym Leader.

“I heard she uses Flying Type Pokémon.” Toby informed me as we walked through the plain route. “Maybe we should catch an Electric, Rock or Ice Type Pokémon to give us the type advantage.”

Sure enough, we both agreed this would be beneficial. However, there was one problem – we couldn’t find any Pokémon of those types in this Route 1, but Rock-type Pokémon could easily be found in Pewter City, home to the somewhat intimidating Leader. To rectify this, we decided it was time to finally head to the city of stone so that we could catch such a Pokémon.

It didn’t take long to reach the end of Route 1, where we were greeted to our first city away from Pallet Town – Viridian City. Since the eighth, and final, gym was found here, many powerful Trainers stopped by to take on the powerful leader who, rather oddly, remained a mystery ever since the former Gym Leader and Professor Oak’s grandson, Gary Oak, resigned his position. Adding to the mystery of the Gym Leader was the fact that the Gym has not been defeated since this new person took over. Many Trainers nowadays are too scared to even challenge the Gym due to this intimidating record.

Quickly moving past the Gym, me and Toby sailed past the mystifying Viridian Forest, defeating a few novice Pokémon Trainers along the way, and straight into the second half of Route 2.

“Only one small little bit until we hit Pewter City!” Toby pointed out, drawing my attention to a tall building in the distance that belonged to the city.

Readying ourselves, we walked as fast as we could until we finally hit the open gates of Pewter City. The city itself was perplexing, appearing to be quite large and filled with stonework buildings and sculptures. To the left, we could make out the Pewter City museum, a famous landmark known by all in Kanto, and a long strip of trees and flowers. To the right was the Gym itself, which inside held Lydia Wiles. We were drawn near as we noticed a young man of similar age to me and Toby walk out with the Gym badge in his hand, and a Gengar floating beside him. Lydia Wiles followed quickly behind, looking exhausted from what of must been an extremely tough battle.

“To say you beat me is an understatement…” Lydia sighed, putting a Poke Ball in her pocket. “How could I lose to someone so quickly, and without even taking out a single one of your Pokémon aswell?”
