Chapter 11
About a week later, and after much coaxing on Shanks' part, the whole family was dressed up in their nicest outfits, which wasn't really saying much, and were sat around a table at one of the nicer restaurants in town. They were there to formally meet Shanks' girlfriend, Makino. Ace and Luffy already kinda knew her because they had both had her as a teacher in elementary school but Saya and Sabo had both had different teachers for that grade.
"So...whats she like?" Saya asked Ace, as she played with the hem of her green tartan dress, which she had matched with a simple black sweater and her black heeled booties.
"Huh?" Ace hummed, looking up at her after unbuttoning a few of his buttons on the white collared shirt he had tucked into a pair of black pants.
Saya narrowed her eyes at her freckled brother, leaning over to button his shirt back up as he let out a whine of protest. "I asked you what she's like?"
Ace gave her his best pout and tried to unbutton his shirt again but only gained a smack in return. "You're mean..." he muttered, glaring at his younger sister now. "From what I remember she was very sweet and caring, reminded me a lot of mom actually."
Those words caused Saya to tense and for Ace to immediately regret what he had said. "Is that so..." she murmured as she looked down at the ground.
"I-I didn't mean it like that! Please don't be upset, Saya..." he apologized, wrapping an arm around her and pulling her into a side hug.
"I'm fine...It's just-" Saya paused, biting her bottom lip. "Never mind...I told dad that I would give her a chance and that is exactly what I'll do."
At that moment Marco sat down with Luffy at the table, they both had on similar outfits to Ace but Marco's shirt was a light lavender color instead of the white that the rest of the brothers had on. Sabo and Thatch had been discussing something on the other side of the table and only broke off their conversation when Luffy took a seat next to Saya and Marco sat down on his other side.
"Where have you two been?" Sabo asked, raising an eyebrow at Marco who obviously looked on edge,
"We had to stop three times so that Luffy could get some food yoi," Marco groaned, sending a glare at his youngest brother who had a content grin plastered across his face.
"Luffy come on, we're about to have a nice dinner!" Thatch hissed, giving him a scolding look.
Luffy simply shrugged and turned his attention to Saya. "When are Shanks and Makino getting here? I'm ready to eat!"
Saya rolled her eyes but took her phone out of her pocket to check if Shanks had texted her. While doing so she realized that Zoro hadn't responded to her text from earlier that day and she frowned slightly. Before any of her brothers could notice she quickly forced a smile. "Uh, he should be here any minute, there's some bread on the table if you can't wait though."
Luffy eagerly dug into the bread basket that Thatch handed him from across the table and when Shanks finally walked in Makino he was still shoving bread down his throat. Shanks frowned when he saw Luffy, shaking his head but Makino just laughed at the sight. "Well, I guess Luffy hasn't changed much," she smiled up at Shanks.
The redhead let out a soft chuckle. "He hasn't changed since he was five," Shanks joked, pulling out a chair for Makino to sit in and taking the seat next to her. "Luffy and Ace are the only ones you know, right?"
Makino slowly nodded, a smile on her face as she looked over all of the siblings. "Yes...its a pleasure to finally meet all of you," she said sweetly.
