Y/N's POV

I let out a deep breath as the shrill sound of the final bell cuts through the air. School's finally over.

"Hey Y/N/N (Your nickname)! Any plans for the summer?" My one and only best friend, Meagan, asks as we make our way to our lockers.

"Sleeping in. You?"

"Plotting to get you in to the music biz." I couldn't help but chuckle at her determination.

"Well good luck with that. Need a ride home?" She nods her head eagerly.

"You know me too well." I laugh and close my locker one last time before heading out towards my car. Once there, we throw our bags on to the back seats and set the ambiance for the ride to her place. Now despite it being my car, Meagan always has control over the radio.

"What's up listeners? There is some exciting news coming to town for the summer! For all you talented singers out there, scouts for the hit music show, The Voice, are coming to town on Monday to look for new contestants for this years edition. And get this, the winner will get to sign an exclusive contract with one of the major record labels! To enter, head over to nbcthevoice.com! Good luck to all of you! Now, up next, a song that is catching fire, give it up for Most Girls by Hailee Steinfeld!"

"Did you hear that Y/N? You've got to enter! They'll take you for sure!" Meagan exclaims, giving me the puppy face.

"You do realize that it's not gonna only be me there, right?"

"Well duh! But, you're gonna be the best one there!"

"Fine, lets get it over with." I say, cracking a small smile. Meg cheers loudly before we both sing along to the song currently playing. A short while later, we pull in to my driveway and head indoors where we're greeted by my mom.

"Hi Honey! How was your day?"

"Great, I'll see you at dinner, yeah?"

"Alright, have funny honey!" I give my mother a small wave before heading up the stairs with Meg in tow. We head in to my room and Meg immediately makes herself at home by plopping herself down on my bed before logging in to her computer.

"Here we go, so it looks like you'll need two songs ready and rehearsed by Monday. Do-able. You have any songs in mind?"

"Um, no."

"Hmm, not what I wanted to hear. How about Hell No's and Headphones, and Havana?" Meg suggests.

"Sure, sounds good to me."

"Alright then, just gimme a sec." That turned out to be thirty seconds in reality.

"Done, you're all registered. Don't forget, you'll need be at the Staples Center at 8:00 am Monday morning."

"Can they make it any earlier?"

"Theoretically, yeah." I send her a glare while she holds her stomach laughing. When she finally settles down, we get down to business. While I google the lyrics to the two songs she's chosen, she pulls up the actual music.

"Lets hear what you got."

"Seems like everybody here
Is speaking different languages
With that green prescription file
Blowing up their faces

And they all look me up and down like I'm the fucking new kid
But I saw the sun rise on this town way before you did
And they're all skiing in the powder room
Making love to Jack and Jameson
But I'll stick with hell no's and headphones
