Another day working in the restaurant. The bruises are fading on the outside. I wish they'd heal as fast on the inside.
My ribs are still cracked, breathing gets easier by the day. I hope this feeling will stay.
I stare at the dough in my hands, concentrating, putting my heart into it.
These hands weren't made for such gentle a craft.
"Azra."
One of my coworkers is calling my name, was I dissociating?
"Uh, yes?"
"Man, I called your name like three times."
"I'm sorry, Elias."
"It's fine. Can you help me out here?"
"Of course."
I walked over and took the knife Elias handed me.
"Watch your fingers, be careful."
...
It felt like someone had punched me in the face.
"Wow, are you okay? You look pale."
"I-I need a moment, sorry."
"It's fine. Come help me out whenever you're ready."
"I- thank you."
I took my apron off and dragged myself to the bathroom.
"Snap out of it."
I looked at myself. I'd gained so much weight. Strangely, the weight gain felt right. I was eating properly. I had escaped.
How long ago? 56 days.
At 80 I'd be safe.
They'd almost caught me at 37, almost.
I splashed water in my face, hoping for the aching to pass.
I made my way back to the kitchen.
I looked at the time.
"4:15." I whispered.
"You ready?"
"Yeah."

After another long day I walked to my apartment.
I kicked off my shoes in the hallway.
It all felt strange.
I was safe.
I had an apartment.
I had a job.

Was it right for a person like me to live this life?
Was it right for a person like me to be safe?
To be happy?

I spent my days questioning everything.

I spent my days thinking.

I still wonder,
Wonder why he helped us.

I laid down on my couch.
I didn't have a bed yet.

I wondered some more.

Would he be punished?
Are they searching for me?
What if they catch me?
Would they kill me?
I might've deserved that.

I didn't deserve this comfortable life.

I fell down to earth
From a hundred miles away and somehow
I still make it work
But it's overrated and somehow played out
Three doors down so you can't ignore it
I'll hunt you down like a tyrannosaurus
My teeth are sharp like a great white shark
Let me taste that flesh, it's my favorite part
Got an eagle beak with the ostrich feet
Seven spider eyes for every day of the week
Means I'm still up working while your bitch ass sleeps
I'm an alien among the human beings
